:D We are the best in this stuff :D

But , in fact , I don't like it , I mean , when I buy something , I look at the seller and the shop, if the seller looks poor or he need money , I don't ask for best price ,

But if he talks alot and want to sell the universe to me , I ask him for the best price,

Last month , I was traveling from Alex to Cairo , and on my way , I stopped in the desert road , To buy some honey for my mum , I found a small poor girl , so I buy 2 jars from her , and as we always (Egyptians) , I start to ask for less price ,
so she make me a discount of abt 20% , then I looked at her , and I give her the 1st price , bcoz I told myself (she needs the money more than u do) ,

So . please think abt that b4 buying , do they need the money more than u ??? (its ur choice)

Novels/books- depends on the type of book and condition. From $.50 to $4.00 depending on the popularity of the genre. Articles of clothing- $1.00- one of the worst sellers at garage sales. A weight machine (reg price $300)- good condition $25-$75 A bike (reg price $130)-good condition $50-$75

Always negotiate.

In smaller shops you are likely to be served by the owner and they are (usually) willing to offer a deal.

Larger shops & chain stores have minimium wage staff who have no power to vary the price (even if they wanted to) and a computer system that imposes limits on what the 'Manager' can do .. typically you can get additional items 'for free' (I guess the Manager puts them down as 'shrinkage') rather than money off..

However these days I just go onto the Internet and get it delivered ... (best price and no pushy g*t trying to sell you 'Extended Warrenty' cover)

I wish.. but the only places in the US that even think to will and deal is either a pawn shop or flea market.. all the other stores will not. When I lived in the town with all the lebanese ppl everywhere we would go we chose a price even when we went to dinner..and I was most shocked when we could will and deal on the price of rent we paid! lol that was such a neat thing for me. :)

I agree with almost everyone here.
It depends on what you are buying, and where.
Some stuffs you can ask for a better price, bcoz there are big amounts of money involved, then with a good deal you can save an important quantity. (house, car, furniture)
But in simple and small devices no, I dont ask for a best price, bcoz generally they already are in a good price.
Many of the times it depends also, on which store you are buying at. One knows perfectly where the best prices are , in the city where one lives at.

I prefer to do research ahead of time...after all, this is a major purchase we're talking about. I find out where I can get the best price so there is no need to go through the annoying and awkward negotiation process.

I ask for the best item and pay the marked price.

I shop around, find the best price and then try to talk the sales rep down. it often works :)

Why pay more when I don't need to!

A low cut shirt sometimes helps. haha

Oh yeah, I have people walk in all the time to my store and say what kind of better deal can you give me? Good repeat customers, sometimes we do, newbies to the store, we just smile and tell them about our discounts with early year major purchases and they say Oh, and leave it. Its always the people with Lotsa money that ask for discounts though.

depends what your buying.
and what do you consider "big priced item"
a car, house
i would make an offer, depending how good the deal is..
but i would probably ask for a best price.
