I'm going to study abroad in Amman next fall and my Turkish boyfriend keeps warning me that it's going to be a huge culture shock (I'm a 19 year old american girl, btw). Does anybody have tips about the culture or society of Jordan? For instance, at first I was thinking about studying in the UAE and the brochure mentioned things like how homosexuality is extremely taboo and never discussed, are there certain taboos or attitudes of Jordan that I should be aware of? Do women have to be covered or accompaignied by a man at all times? (I don't think that's true but my bf keeps telling me that) And what are some cool places to visit? Thanks!

What do you think is the main cause of inhouse fighting between iraqi's, palestinians, and lebanese? Do you think that the main reason is that illetracy is high? Shouldn't thier governments pay more attention to their education, make sure that they are all go to school before getting out into the real world? I believe an educated individual will not make the choices that these people are making right now, especially the hate for their fellow countrymen.

That hotels especially the big 4 and 5 star ones didn't have women in hijab (I mean as receptionists etc) except as cleaners...

I also noticed this in Morocco too..

Was it my imagination..Or do the big hotel chains have a policy of not employing women in hijab???

Why is this??? I don't think it is fair!

I'd like to go to Alexandria. In fact, I've been wanting to go for quite some time, but I haven't been sure that I should go. I've got a limited wallet and I'm looking for a place to live. I'm going to take several visits first, to check it out, but I don't want to waste my money. This is where I need help. Please tell me about Alexandria.

I am an American girl, age between 16 and 23, chemistry major, brown hair, blue eyes, and a little too skinny. I like eating foods of all kinds, and I love going outside. My favorite activities are hiking, hanging out with friends, and I love to read. I also love the beach and swimming. However, I am a paranoid person, partially because my sister tells excellent horror stories. My mother doesn't like the idea of me going far away, so I need to know if Alexandria is considered "anal-mom safe".

Please let me know if you think Alexandria is the place for me. However, I will not be moving until I have visited several times and I finish college.

hi there fellow Shouth Africans, i'm having trouble with the cellphone chat program MXIT! I've been looking at forum.mxit.co.za but nothing seems to be helping! My phone keeps telling me that Mixit is unsigned and that it will require airtime which obviously requires airtime, asking me to allow this (Net access). after a few connecting and reconnecting attemps, it says that: Mxit Login/registration failed: possible resons: mxit service is unavailable or GPRS service is unavailable.

But I know its not the GPRS setting or the fake-full servers excuse, because i can only access mxit if I download it everytime and use imediatly; after logging off it just wouldn't work!!!!

Plz plz plz can you help me! I am fed-up!!!!! I have a LG KG800 (LG Chocolate) it's a new phone, working perfectly except for this small little problem! Plz help

Big thanks Jesse :)

Or to put it another way, if I were to go there on a visit how long would £250 last me?
I have already checked out the exchange rate which is approx. 8.3 new shekels to the gb pound, but that doesn't tell me much about how expensive things are in Israel.
For example, what would be the cost of a meal in a reasonably nice restaurant?

But my local money changer in Singapore only give 4.72 to US$1!!! So should I change them in Egypt local banks, agents or at Cairo Airport? Which will give a better rate and safer?

I will be in the tourism fair in Tel Aviv, the 7th and 8th of February.
Is there anybody else going there?
It’s first time for me to travel to Israel and I am a little nervous, as I’ve seen on TV that another bomb exploded in Eilat.
My husband is very afraid for me and insists that I should stay at home, but it´s my job and it’s important for my future career to go... and I wanted to go to Israel all my life... I will arrive 4th and return 9th.
What can I see in 2 days??? (The 5th and 6th????)
Would it be best to rent a car and go around?? Is there a lot of traffic???
Any 1-day trips you can recommend??? (The hotel is in Tel Aviv)
What to see in Tel Aviv???

The government must wake up and make crime this country's most important priority but it doesn't bother them at all. President Thabo Mbeki stated that the crime is not out of control and now Selebi made it even worse with his statement. He said that the crime was much worse during the 1995 Wordcup rugby tournament than it is now. Famous historian and naturalist, David Rattray, was murdered at Fugitives Drift Lodge on 26 January 2007 and he was a friend of Prince Charles. It's making headlines in the foreign countries. South Africa can not be seen as a tourist industry anymore. All that's left of this once beautiful country is crime and destruction but I guess that's what the government want cause they don't do anything about it. They don't care.
