We are considering taking an inexpensive vacation to Costa Rica in late March. Being rather independent and valuing our privacy at times, should we avoid the package deals and rent a car? We recently returned from Crete, where we stayed in a historical villa in a small village, and were able to explore as needed once we got use to the roads/stick shift,ect.. We want to hike in the rainforest and see the best of Costa Rica for $2000- $3000 including airfare, but not necessarily meals.. Two meals a day are more than adequate, and 7-10 days would be about right. We don't particularly care about the beaches but want to see the volcano, butterflies and exotic flora/fauna/animals. It will be our 7th anniversary, and we are in our mid-50's , so nothing TOO strenuous. Any suggestions, itineries, recommendations towards places to stay, tour, or eat, will be very much appreciated. We LOVE nature, natives, walking, coffee and chocolate!

I remember being at the Hatch Shell and the flowers would fall into the river and it was the most beautful sight. But I can't remember what trees/flowers they were!

My mother just got 4 Job offers. One in El Passo Texas, One In Stamford CT and two in Washington State, Bothell and I forgot the name of the other place. Shes considering taking the CT one. If she does chances are I'll go with her. I have never been to any of the states and was wondering what CT is like.

Is there anything to do there? I think NYC is only 30min from there. Is Stamford in perticular a safe area, low crime and such?

I lived in Wisconsin almost my entire life and worry that if I where to move to say CT I would not fit in, but I'm really tired of midwestern living.

I could never see myself living in Texas so I really does not have a change of heart and take that one haha.

So point being, what does anyone know about Connecuit? If you live there do you like it, and would you say it's a good place to raise a family?3

The stereotypes are its cultured and educated, high crime near downtown, and extreme weather.

Have you been there, what do you think?

I went to Cabo---best beach---water was rough. Been other places---I am 61 and have bad legs so want water that is very calm. Also, I want the water warm---about 80 degrees fine and I want to snorket from beach or hotel---not go out in boat. What is the best month to travel and do you know a good hotel?
