No, most of it was shot in Brooklyn NY, not Boston. Boston was used in skyline and background shots (very few scenes were shot in Boston)
Boston is a very expensive place to shoot movies because of a tax law imposed on shooting movies ( a lot of people have been protesting to strike the law recently), so filmmakers either use NY or Canada (like Good Will Hunting).
(One more thing, the movie location is trying to depict "South Boston" and not the main metropolitan Boston. South Boston is not the most glamourous of all places, so if it looks kind of old and ugly, just know that's just a small portion of Boston (hence, the reason for choosing "Brooklyn"). Not trying to diss South Boston...I love Southie, it's just that there's more beauty in Boston than Southie)
I'm happy you liked it cause I have been struggling in the last 24 hours whether to see it or not, cause I don't like movies about violence but I love a good movie, so I will watch it)

Most was shot actually in Boston, so yeah it's pretty darn authentic!

I haven't seen the movie yet, but it was shot in and around Boston for the most part.
