I'd love to learn skiing but I'm a runner and I'm afraid of messing up my knees. A friend I knew tore his ACL and couldn't play soccer for a year. Would being in shape or lifting weights help? I squat 235 lbs for 10 reps with good form so I probably have decent leg strength.

I was thinking of going on a ski trip to a destination nobody ever talks about, and settled on Kyrgyzstan, which is known as the "Switzerland of Central Asia".

What are some other good "unknown" places to ski?

I love skiing and have always dreamed of owning my own pair. I recently bought new high quality skis complete with boots, poles and bindings. Although it was all half off it still came out to $960. I feel guilty getting them since I'm a recent graduate and I go skiing only 2-4 times a year. Additionally all this global warming ruckus is getting me quite nervous at the prospect of there being a reduced snow season in the coming years.

I am a good beginning skier, I took the sport naturally. But, I'm 5 feet tall and weigh 95 pounds, so I'm thin. Though, my legs have muscle thanks to ballet. In case your thinking this is really thin, it's not for my height. So don't tell me to gain weight, it's not necessary.

Problem: I live in Illinois and we don't have the nicest runs in the surrounding resorts so there are small bumps in the hard snow. When I go over these areas my skis shake, I feel like I lose contact with the snow becuase I'm too light, and fear losing control. How can I press into the snow and keep better contact while going over these small bumps?

In general I think I float over the slopes because no matter what I try, I fly down the slopes faster than any of my friends. I'd rather go slower as a beginner.

I am a high school Nordic Ski racing participant and am looking to buy skate-style skis. I am about 125 pounds and 5'6". Should I go with a medium or stiffer flex? What length would be good? (I am looking at length 182 or 186-187.) Any specific ski? Please Help!

Three of my friends and I are planning on a ski trip to Vermont in the beginning of March. We would like to go to Mount Snow, Killington, Sugarbush, and Stowe. Is there any kind of pass we could get instead of paying for single day lift tickets at each ski resort? I noticed the powder passport on another website but it does not include any of the mountains I mentioned. Any information will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

What is a good place to go skiing in southern ny state, the pocconos, or north jersey. Last time I went the begginers slope at mountain creek was way to steep even tho i never fell on the bunny hill. I am also not the biggest fans of ski lifts so what places have the magic carpets too. i want to go to a place with many novice and begginer slopes. Also who has the best tubing? thanks.

Obviously, you shouldn't get a down jacket wet, due to the fact that it will lose a large percent, if not all of it's heat retainment.

However, what about using a down jacket when skiing or snowboarding? Falling, and getting wet snow all over you is a big part of both sports. How would a down jacket hold up to wet snow?
