what is it? You get skis and go to the top of the biggest hill you can find and strap the skis to your boots and slide down the hill. The hill has to be covered with snow.

Do a search for Banff Skiing or SunShine Village Skiing on the internet, Banff is in the Canadian Rocky Mountains, so there is LOTS of Information on Alpine Skiing :)

They might have some videos of people skiing. Of course, this is REAL SKIING, because you actually get in a mechanical chairlift, or gondola that takes you WAAAAAY
to the top of the mountain, and then you ski to the bottom.
It can take like an hour to get from top to bottom!!
And you slide pretty FAST..those mountains are steep :)

Alpine skiing refers to the major division in competitive skiing between Alpine and Nordic. In Alpine skiing your heels are locked down to the skis. In Nordic your heels are not locked down.

The main Alpine events are Slalom, Giant Slalom, Super G and Downhill. In all of them the skier travels downhill through gates. The number of gates and the speed varies with each event.

Nordic includes cross country (basically a running race on skis), biathlon (a combination of a cross country race and rifle shooting) and ski jumping (where you hurl yourself into space).

There is also freestyle, where you do tricks.
