Ask your friend what they are planning to do while on holiday. My experience has been that if everyone is using the same gear (boards or skis) then it makes for a better day for everyone.

If you still have a choice and have limited time to learn then boarding may be your best choice as most people find it easier to learn.

It's not true that there are less tricks to do skiing, in fact there has been a huge resurgence in kid trick skiiers these days. I lived in Aspen for the last two years and skiing has come back in style. There is a lot more you can do skiing.

I was also a ski instructor there and I can tell you what I told my students. Skiing is easier to learn, but there is a plateau, usually after your 4th or 5th day you reach medium and it's hard to get past that. Snowboarding is way tougher at first but once you get past the first 3 days you can be doing tricks by day 4. Either way, make sure you take some lessons, you'll get much better and have a lot more fun.

You're going to get a lot of different answers. I ski and snowb are fun but your learning curve will vary with your experience and natural talent. Best advice is to get professional lessons with wither on as this will aloow you to learn the quickest. And do what you like to do. Good luck!

it took me about seven years to try skiing again too, and it was a disaster, i find it awkward with two poles, two skis, too much stuff. I thought snowboarding was much much easier to learn, i never took snowboard lessons either.
try renting ski's halfday and snowboard the rest

to each his own, but i think skiing is great! as an instructor, i can tell you that it will be easier for you to learn to ski. even if your friend is snowboarding, you will still be able to enjoy the slopes together!

I'm not that proficient but I'd say skiing, you spend more time standing up while learning!!LOL Oh and it is so cool!

Try both. Do what you like best.

Whichever one you choose, have lessons.
