I am going to Keystone in March to go skiing. I just bought a new Turbine jacket and pants (I think they are actually for snowboarding, but I figured it didnt matter). How many pairs of baselayers do I need under my pants? How many shirts do I wear under my jacket, and how many pairs of socks? THANKS!

I'm going skiing with my friend this coming week and he is athletic, but he has never skied (sp?) before. I have gone skiing once a year since I was about 5 and am an intermediate skier.

Unlike some other sports that I do year long, I never learned the terminology, techniques, or mechanics of skiing. I pretty much just go by instinct.

My friend will only be visiting for 4 days, and skiing for 3. He does not want to pay for an instructor, so he wants me to teach him.

What are some things that might be second nature to me but that I should teach him in order to get him to a level where he is having fun?

Last year I dropped a lot of money ($400) on a new pair of Lange ski boots. The first day on the slopes with the new boots was certainly no picnic, but that is to be expected with any boot on its' first day or two out on the snow. It's been almost two seasons now and although there is less pain now than there was on my first day out with them, they still cause me a considerable amount of pain. I tried a custom insole, and...no dice. It may haver actually made the pain worse. Now with the boots and the custom insole, I'm out almost $500 and definately cant afford to buy new boots right now. Do you know of anything I can do, any little tricks that might help?

Any suggestions or advise you might have would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

I am looking for a large percentage of beginner runs for the kids, and an overall nice and relaxed environment, with no big crowds. I am looking to go in January. Also looking for a resort with lack of boarders.

Tomorrow I might be entering a downhill skiing race, slalom style, which is free for all to enter so long as they have a lift ticket for the resort I go to (I have a season pass.) The event is called the Mountain Dew Verticle Challenge. I'm 17, and will be skiing with other 15-17 year olds. I can ski the run in question in a full tuck straight down without a problem, but I've never skied gates before and have had no racing instruction. What do you suppose my chances are?

Forgetting about price and the border ... just compare the skiing.
