Colorado. We have a huge variety of places; in New Mexico, your choice is Taos.
It depends on what you're looking for in a ski trip. If you're looking for challenging runs, Crested Butte, CO, and Taos, NM, are both great places to go. If you're looking for great skiing and a chic ski town to hang out in, try Breckenridge, Telluride, or Vail, all in CO. If you're looking to stay in one central location and hit up several different mountains, Colorado is the way to go. There are 4 resorts within a short (FREE) bus ride from Breckenridge, 3 near Vail, 3 near Telluride. If you're looking for deep powder days, try Monarch. It's a smaller resort, but it consistently has the best snow anywhere. I meet a lot of Texans at the southern Colorado resorts like Monarch, Crested Butte, and Wolf Creek. In fact, I skiied Monarch earlier this week and the powder was FANTASTIC!
You're really not going to go wrong, you will have a blast anywhere you go!

I am from Texas and have skied in both, and there are great resorts in both states. Santa Fe and Angelfire in NM are smaller than most CO mountains, and very fun for beginners to intermediate. Taos is a great resort but a lot more difficult than the other two, and doesn't allow snowboarders. Colorado is tough to beat for the amount of resorts and the whole skiing experience, and they get a little more snow than New Mexico. I think NM tends to be a little cheaper and less crowded than CO, but you can't go wrong with either.

Wrong!!! Utah is better than either New Mexico and any of the resorts in Colorado. There are now 10 resorts that are less than a one hour drive from downtown Salt Lake City, Utah. Seven are less than 45 minutes away. Also, all but 3 of the Utah ski resorts still have lift tickets under $60 a day. Colorado is 2nd best with Vail, Aspen, Beaver Creek, Cooper Mtn. and Winter Park some of their top choices. PS Utah consistently gets 35-40% more snow too!

Colorado would be better than New Mexico for sure - but Utah is better than Colorado.
Colorado has quite a few resorts very close to each other - Vail, Breckenridge, Arapaho, Copper Mt. Makes for good variety. Vail is great - but expensive to get a lift ticket, the village is expensive, and lodging is expensive. If you have an unlimited budget, you'll feel at-home at Vail.
Now Utah... better snow, more resorts, and you can even take the option of staying in SLC if you want and simply taking the 30-40 minute drive to each of the fantastic resorts. Advantage this way is cheaper lodging (several quite nice hotels in SLC for low rates), great variety of dining options. All the resorts are an easy 30-40 minute drive - Park City, Canyons, SnowBird, SnowBasin, Brighton, Alta, and more.
Utah costs less, less crowds, better snow.

nicely, I stay in the Dallas area, yet lots of the folk i understand finally end up going to Colorado to ski. i do no longer ski, yet i like to circulate there too for a good number of of environment and outdoors relaxing. what's terrific nonetheless is the huge open areas and the very incontrovertible fact that it relatively is much less crowded, a minimum of it relatively is my opinion. lol

I grew up in Utah so I am partal to it. I am going to school in dallas. Utah is the best place I have ever skiied (i have skiied all over the country) but out of CO and NM you should really go to CO if you can handle another 8 hours on the road go to utah you will be glad you did. skiing in NM was terrible
