I already have the plate screwed into my skis. Now how do I correctly position them? Should they be forward set? What tools do I need? Can I do this myself? Thank you for the help.

My question is to anyone out there who's got more experience in big mountain riding.
How can I get faster ???
I was told lean on the front foot and place my bindings slightly
more slalom position(downhill racer style).
Being a surfer for most of my life,I find that binding position somewhat uncomfortable,I prefer the 90deg on back foot and -12 or so on front.
I'm 6'2 and 95kg and looooove the deep pow.
I never do parks as they are a bit boring and trendy.
So just need some technique tips on gaining fast speed without too much physical effort.
On average my casual flat line speed is around 60km P/H,sometimes more but it's tricky depending on the conditions.
You often see these little guys looking super casual but absolutely fly past.
Hope some one can help?
In need of more speed!!

Is it okay to have them standing up or should you lie them down? Do you keep them in a bag? Is the garage okay for storing? Any tips would be helpful.

I'm just wondering, how many girls here actually go out and hit jumps built in the backcountry? If you do, how big are you comfortable going? If not, do you hit park jumps? Do you not get the opportunity to hit backcountry jumps?

I'd love to learn skiing but I'm a runner and I'm afraid of messing up my knees. A friend I knew tore his ACL and couldn't play soccer for a year. Would being in shape or lifting weights help? I squat 235 lbs for 10 reps with good form so I probably have decent leg strength.

I'm going to start ice skating this winter, and I was wondering if I should take private or group lessons. I really want to move quickly and I don't know if I will be able to do that if I'm skating with 7 year olds. Also, sometimes when I'm in groups learning things I get frustrated easier, and I definitely don't want to risk wanting to quit because I'm frustrated.
People having been telling me not to take private lessons right away because you're just learning the basics. I just don't think I'd be as excited to learn if I was with little kids. Does taking private lessons help you learn the basics faster (I would take 30 min. private lessons)? I can skate forward pretty steadily at a medium pace, but that's about it.
I can't take both, my parents say I have to choose between the two. So which would you choose and why?

I was thinking of going on a ski trip to a destination nobody ever talks about, and settled on Kyrgyzstan, which is known as the "Switzerland of Central Asia".

What are some other good "unknown" places to ski?

I love skiing and have always dreamed of owning my own pair. I recently bought new high quality skis complete with boots, poles and bindings. Although it was all half off it still came out to $960. I feel guilty getting them since I'm a recent graduate and I go skiing only 2-4 times a year. Additionally all this global warming ruckus is getting me quite nervous at the prospect of there being a reduced snow season in the coming years.

I am a good beginning skier, I took the sport naturally. But, I'm 5 feet tall and weigh 95 pounds, so I'm thin. Though, my legs have muscle thanks to ballet. In case your thinking this is really thin, it's not for my height. So don't tell me to gain weight, it's not necessary.

Problem: I live in Illinois and we don't have the nicest runs in the surrounding resorts so there are small bumps in the hard snow. When I go over these areas my skis shake, I feel like I lose contact with the snow becuase I'm too light, and fear losing control. How can I press into the snow and keep better contact while going over these small bumps?

In general I think I float over the slopes because no matter what I try, I fly down the slopes faster than any of my friends. I'd rather go slower as a beginner.

I have a 4'3 inch daughter, Size 4.5 boot. We have a 130 board. 8.75 inches wide. Is this board too thin for a size 5 boot?
How should the bindings be put on? Straight or at an angle?

I'm going snowshoeing, and have never used long underwear before. How tight/loose should the tops and bottoms fit? Should they be like a "second skin", or is it okay if they're a bit looser and kind of flabby in some areas? Would the fit vary depending on the sport (i.e. if I were to ski or snowboard instead)?

I just bought 2007 Salomon Arnie 5000 for 180 USD, but I didn't realize it is a freestyle snowboard.
Do you guys think it will still be okay for a normal user? I haven't done any freestyle yet.
