Hello from Britain! Some friends and I are discussing the recent mass media coverage of gun crime in Britain (typically committed by under 16s, worringly) and how, if you live in the right area and know the right people, it's very easy to get a handgun, even if it is very expensive and may be, in actual fact, a modified blank-firing pistol of a reactivated collector's piece. Nothing top of the range, but of course they all kill.

We then wondered that, given some parts of the USA have very liberal gun laws compared to us here in the UK, does that neccesarily make it any easier to get an illegal handgun or do you still have to be part of that tight-knit underworld fraternity? Could you or I, Joe Bloggs, acquire an illegal handgun with relative ease even if we knew nobody who was of criminal leanings? Or is it just as secretive a process as it is in the UK, depsite the fact there are so many more legal guns?

Thanks for all serious and helpful answers!

I am about to buy my first deer rifle (Remington 700 sps Stainless). I enjoy the .270, and find it's recoil to be very manageable with 150-grain rounds, but I was also considering the .30-06 (because of cartridge variety/selection).

How much more recoil does an .06 have? Also, is the .06 much louder than the .270? I'm not super recoil-sensitive, but noise will make me flinch more easily than the actual push on my shoulder.

Thanks!

lets say it travels straight for 500meters, can you sight your scope in at 500 meters and just keep it like that when shooting within that distances.

I went crabbing on Saturday evening. I caught my limit, and because I was staying in a motel room, I put my crab into a ice chest with a bag of ice on them. I drove back home this morning, but didn't get home until around 8pm. I noticed a few of the crabs were dead. I cooked the dead ones separately from the live ones just in case, but are the dead ones safe to eat? They were kept on ice from the time I caught them until I put them into the pot of water. I don't want to waste the crabs, but I also don't want to get me or my family sick. :( Any idea if these are ok?

Is it catching something that's wild, the interaction, however cruel, with nature? Is it a reason for looking at a body of water and nature without getting bored or looking like your a nature-lover? What makes people doing something as inactive and boring as that?

Ok so now i've narrowed it down to these two options. I was wondering which gun is better for taking down a yote keeping in mind pricing, .17HMR or .223. Is a .17HMR powerful enough for taking down a yote at a fairly long distance(80-125 yrds.)? Is a .223 too powerful for taking down other varmits like prairie dogs and rabbits?

And also, i found a scope that magnifies at 8-32x50. So what gun would even be able to shoot that distance?

I am a registered gun owner living in Texas. Now someone I know, a family member, wants to buy the gun. Can I just sell it to him or is there paperwork I need to do? If I sell it to him with the gun registered to my name would there be problems or issues if he is caught using the gun?

opinions on shooting of game at long distances(300yds+) over stalking to get closer shot. with todays calibers optics and practice it is possible, ethics of good shot placement at these distances aside when is it hunting rather than just shooting game.

Most SIG-Sauer pistol in the US are made in the US. But why don't SIG-Sauer just bring guns from Germany over to the US? From what I've seen, the German made SIG pistols are a lot more high quality than the US made one.

One of my friends says that I can not be considered a hunter, because I only go after small game. My parents won't let me buy a rifle or shotgun either, so I hunt with things like a pistol crossbow, blowgun and slingshot. What do you guys think?
