Ridicule denbobway.

Fishtremble was talking about maximum range, not usable accuracy.

Remington claims that their .308 Win ammo is dangerous out to 3 miles, and lots of 1,000 yard records and longer have been set with the .308 Win.

If you are talking about usable range, none of the small bores are much use past 600 meters, though the bullet will travel a couple of miles if fired at about a 45* angle.

Standard High Velocity .22 LR cartridges are credited with 1 1/2 mile ranges on the boxes, but useful range is about 100-150 yards.

Beyond what I call "useful range" you really can't count on hitting anything much smaller than a car except by luck.

Accurately, none of them would be a good choice for anything past a mile. A .22lr, the weakest round you've listed, can go about two miles, a .308 could be capable of far more than that, maybe reaching out to five miles when you don't want it to. The .308 should be good to about 1000 yards with the right rifle and load, a .22-250 should be a little less than that, and a .223 should be another little bit than that. The .22 might be able to take you to 200 yards reasonably.

denbobwa... You didn't read what I said. I didn't say that they were useful for that distance, only that thats about how far they could go. If you don't believe me, you do the math and figure it out on your own. There's a good calculator to compute velocity, drop, windage, energy, and MOA deviation on www.ammoguide.com.

Here is the best info I have found: http://hypertextbook.com/facts/2002/DomnaAntoniadis.shtml

This should help answer your question. Of course a 22-250 is hotter than a .223, a .308 is a little milder than the .30-06 but you get the idea. Max for the .308 should be a little less than the '06, which is 5675 yards; the 22 LR 2000 yards, or a little over a mile.

'john r' is right, he posted what I posted last time this was answered so I have to agree with him.

223 is good for 3875 yards, so that'a a little over 2 miles.

As the link says, even at around 3 miles the 30-06 is still going 800fps. That would likely be lethal.

These aren't accurate ranges, they are safety ranges.

Ridicules Fishtrem..., The only thing you're right about is the .22 is the weakest round. The only one capable of a mile and maybe a tiny bit more is the .308. The rest are too light. Don't repeat hearsay.
