I'm in the process of shopping for my first precision rig. Now, I'm not into the fancy calibers (read: 6mm BR or any of the Ackley Improved family, or any of 'em wildcats).

As such, I was recommended a few different ones.

.308, which is venerable, apparently pretty easy to load for;

.243, which, with handloads and the right barrel can be accurate to 1000 yards, but is a bit of a barrel burner, or so I hear;

Or anything you're willing to suggest. Please note that I will be building this rig probably off of a Remington 700 SPS Varmint, considering that I like the stock and the new Remington actions.

Oh, and no .50 BMG, or .416 Cheytac. And I can't afford anyting chambered for the .338 Lapua.

You decide. Is hunting a sport? It is defined as "act of seeking, following, and killing wild animals for consumption or display.

I want to know if it is a sport! NOT OF YOU THINK IT IS WRONG TO HUNT ANIMALS! IF YOU THINK IT IS WRONG KEEP IT TO YOURSELF, PLEASE!

What do you think? Is hunting a sport? In an organized paragraph, give your opinion regarding this question. There is no right or wrong answer, but whoever supports their answer the best gets the best answer.

For example on a sniper rifle the scope is on top of the barrel where the bullet actually is released, surely if you aim the crosshairs at a point, the bullet would actually be shot a couple of cm's below where you origianally aimed?

Well this is the gun i chose to be my first starter gun that is actually a good defensive round. I have been using a .22 and learned many good habits with it. Now i choose the .40 to take me into the Good rounds like 45 40 and 9 i plan on buying some more handguns like the XD, M&P, and a 1911 down the road.

So was this a good choice any little reviews you can give me if you have it or know about it or your opinions on it? please no taurus bashers. i am fully aware of your arguements and they do not phase me so please just some good answers/.....

well thank you all...

1. What is the average price for a .45 or 9 MM new or used?

2. And is there much of a cost difference for ammo with either gun?

3. I live in CA, so will I require any permits or something to purchase a hand gun?

What are your pros and cons for each?

Since I have an archery tag for turkey AND deer, I'm thinking of going with the fixed broadheads, but it's been my experience that fixed ones whistle louder than expandable ones.

Thoughts?

I'm looking for an-all around pocket knife. Something for hunting, yet could be used to cut boxes or for self defense.

I've narrowed it down to a few companies- SOG, Buck, Benchmade, and Gerber.

I prefer serrated edges, lightweight, and something that has a safety.

My final choice would probably be a SOG tiger-striped trident?

Are there any laws against having a High School Rifle club? If we were to meet once a month at a shooting range and never bring any firearms or ammunition on school property would they allow just advertising starting one like they let the drama club, math club, Italian culture club etc. advertise? I plan to go shooting in November with a few friends just for fun and thought it would be cool to start a club and everyone that wants to can go.
