As in the title, looking at getting a full-size pistol. Leaning towards Taurus because of the lower price, and Taurus' possible reliability issues don't seem to be too bad with these. The difference between the 99 and 101 is they are 9mm and 40s&w respectively. Haven't decided which caliber would be better for my purposes. I am not going to try to use whichever of these guns I decide on as a concealed weapon, just all too large IMO, would get a separate pistol for that. Looking mostly for defense like walking through the woods or target shooting, accuracy is something I want. I believe the Beretta p92 was originally designed as a 9mm, but Beretta has the 96 in 40 as well. Don't know if the 9 would be more reliable because it was the original design load. 9mm is obviously cheaper and perhaps more available, but not planning on shooting all that much so not a big concern. So any opinions on the pt99 vs the pt101? Or should I just spend the extra $120ish and get the pt1911 in 45?

I am moving to Japan for a year, and I want to know how to appropriately store my guns. I have a few rifles + some hand guns that I need to have to leave behind here in the states.

Advice?

They will be locked in a basement. Anything I should know? Thanks!

We are going to go fishing next Spring at a lake near Durango, Colorado. We are going to troll for trout. My brother said that he heard that a "Christmas Tree" lure was the thing to get for trout trolling.
Anyone ever heard of this and if so, where I could find it?
Thanks

I was wondering if yall knew of any good gunsmithing schools/colleges. I am really thinking about pursuing this as a career. Since some of you are gunsmiths, I thought yall would probably know the best route to take.

I was also thinking about becoming one through the Marines at Quantico. Good or bad idea?

A buddy of mine sometimes takes me to the firing range with him. I am planning on taking a course on gun safety and getting my foid card, I already have taken a class on pistol and rifle safety but it was years ago. Anyhow, my question is, if we wanted to find an outdoor spot to shoot as opposed to going and paying to rent a lane at the firing range what are the laws reguarding that? Must it be done on private land? Also, what are some safety tips, how much land should be free of people and buildings behind where your shooting? Would a mile be sufficient?

I'm not a hunter, but I'd like to get a .410 as a plinker/camp gun/closet gun. I know, I know--12 gauges and 20 gauges are more powerful and cheaper to shoot. The negatives of the .410 are well known (limited range, expensive ammo, etc.), but what of the virtues of this much maligned cartridge?

I want to get a small, light gun for my wife. Something that she can carry in her purse. Just for self protection. Every gun I got her was 'too heavy'! Maybe something w/ 1 or 2 shots???? Any Suggestions???

Your personal prefrence. No specific gun, just all around excilence. (reliability, shot grouping, quality, price, etc.)

I had someone tell me that I should get a Remington 870 instead of a Mossburg 500 because he said that Mossburg's are pieces of crap. I want to find others opinions on that statement. Thanks!!!

I have been hunting for many years and I either set up for a long range shot or I bow hunt I dont use rifles that cannot achieve very long ranges I was just curious what all of you consider a long range cartridge and see how they compare to the rifles I hunt with and how many of you avoid Heavy Recoil to settle for mediocre performance if you are young hunter or for handycap reasons cant physically handle heavy recoil answer anyway but be shore to include that information in your answer. this is a 2 part question I will ask the other after deciding on this one.

I'm licensed and have a handgun. I know I need a license to hunt and I don't have a problem getting one. But as a female I want to know where I can go to meet other male/female hunters that can guide me. I would ideally like to hunt deer, but I'm open toother sorts of game. I live in the Bay Area (East Bay) California. I've wanted to go hunting for the longest time. But I have no hunting friends, and as a female, especially being asian I really don't know what people will think, lol. I mean if I walk into a hunting store and ask a bunch of questions, would I be taken seriously? Suggestions, Ideas? Thanks a bunch.

ok I'm not the type of person to tell my guy what he can or can't do but I am strongly against hunting (and yes I do eat meat) but my whole thing is those are all ready dead when I get them and I'm not the one going out and killing them. I guess what I really have a problem with is someone who can go out and one day feed the ducks or look at the deer and then the next day want to take a gun to them. So I told my boyfriend just not to talk to me about it which obviously causes some problems because he wants to talk about it ALL the time. And I can't get it to not bother me. So...is there a way to come to an agreement. I mean I told him I'd even be fine if he just stuck with small game (I understand the bird population is crazy) but he refuses not to hunt big game. So stressed about it right now with it being hunting season please help?

I just recently learned about hunting ranches. For those of you who are not familiar, a hunting ranch is a ranch where the owners breed, feed and raise non-wild animals for sport-hunting in a closed enviroment. People pay thousands of dollars to go to these ranches to hunt rare or non-rare animals like bison or African deer for "entertainment". The kills can be stuffed or eaten for example.

When I first learned of this and started to do a little research, I found myself in a bit of a quandary. I am a meat eater yet I find this concept disgusting. Am I a complete hypocrite? Obviously the meat I ate was killed, but how? Was it killed on a hunting ranch or in the wild? What the difference in terms of what's right and what's wrong? I'm not going to stop eating meat, but should I change my viewpoint about hunting ranches?

I've looking at buying a shotgun for under $500 and have narrowed my choices down to three. Which do you think is the most reliable and the which would be the best buy. Benelli Nova, Benelli Supernova, or Remington 870.

I want to get a pair of wolverine boots (wo2582, which have the durashock) but the tread does not seem very deep. I would hate to buy a 150$ pair of boots only for the tread to be worn down in a short amount of time.
So, how good are wolverine boots for longevity and durability?
