I've looking at buying a shotgun for under $500 and have narrowed my choices down to three. Which do you think is the most reliable and the which would be the best buy. Benelli Nova, Benelli Supernova, or Remington 870.

Benelli Shotguns are well designed but over-priced and over-rated.. but the Remington 870 is hard to match for quality and reliable performance. I would buy the 870 in a heartbeat before I bought ANY Benelli Pump Shotgun......

Having used both the Benellis and the 870 I say get the 870. I own a 870 and I am very happy with it.

The Remington 870 is probably the best choice. They are a bit more controllable and dont kick quite like the Nova/Supernova.

The Benelli Nova. It is NOT overpriced and even the tactical non-sporting model is priced right. I am surprised that no other company is usuing polymer like Benelli. I also like the chromed barrel. I would pick the 870 next before the SuperNova.

On the eighth day god went back to work and authorized the Remington 870; it has not been improved on since it came out in 1951. Go with it and you will never go wrong.

870 is a great gun..i own one..but you cannot beat the greatness of a benelli..Look at tom knapp and the shooting he does with a benelli shotgun...very impressive....but if you want an overall good gun, the 870 is a good choice.

I have both an 870 and a Benelli Nova. They are both great guns. If I had to pick one, I'd pick the Nova. The thing is virtually indestructible. I've beaten the crap out of it, mud, wind snow and rain, and it still looks and works great. I've taken ducks, geese, turkey and deer all with that gun.

I think the 870 will last the longest. i think they are the best and toughest built. it is up to you but Remington has gained most peoples respect and mine.
