They are very stiff, and don't feel very comfortable. Walking needs shoes that are comfortable...I need to soften them so they will be 'old and comfortable'

I started running (on treadmill) three to four yrs ago to loose weight. I used to run 4 to 6 days a week for 2.5 miles, at a speed of 7 to 8.5 m/hr with a 2.5 to 5 degree of elevation, which help me burn almost 350+ cal. Besides running I play soccer and tennis 3 to 4 times a week. Now since 45 days my knees are hurting too much, I try to run but it hurts and I can't even bent my knees. I quit running for a week, which was very hard because I'm so use to of running. I tried running again and still no luck. I quit running for a 3 weeks, and tried again and it hurts again. I'm so addictive to running and can't think of switching my running with anything else like cycling or elliptical machine.
What I'm doing wrong? What do I have to do so I can start running again? Does elliptical training machines or cycling have some effect as running?
Many thanks for your help…

I've done a lot of running off and on for my whole life, but always distance running, never sprinting. I gave the hundred meter a try today, with no specific training and no starting block. I had already run a few miles and was slightly fatigued. Have I discovered a new talent?

I cannot find any. I'd like one with dragons or something cool on, like the ones powell make, but cheaper if possible, because i'm only getting started. completes preferable to build your own tipe ones.

I like gymnastics and think it would be a good workout that would keep me motivated but usually "adult" classes means older kids. I'm not someone who's been doing this since they were 7 & I'm not looking to go pro. I just want a good workout in a setting where children are not part of the curriculum.
