Cheerleading is definitely a sport and I really don't think we get the credit that we deserve. We work our butts off 5 or 6 days of a 7 day week, support Football, Basketball, Wrestling, Soccer...(almost all sports!) We tumble, dance, and stunt.
A sport is a competitive physical activity right? Well, isn't that basically what cheer is?
Cheer is competitive as well as physical....
We attend competitions, just as football players compete in games. Cheer is one of the most hardcore sports out there! Not to mention the most dangerous! People really need to cut us a break. Whoever says cheer is not a sport serisously needs to reevauate what a sport actually is!

Hate to mention but when your dad would possibly not help you, I desire that your mother will. I am a center university cheerleading educate and cheerleading isn't affordable. Of direction center schoolers do not have jobs to pay for camp, uniforms, and many others. and although you might get a task, you do not have time to paintings and cross to after university practices, conferences, and video games.... and do not forget assignments. You will want any one to support you pay the expenses. Is your cheerleading squad conventional or game? A conventional squad is the squad that does the pep rally, cheers at video games from the sidelines, and might do a part time efficiency. A game squad is a squad that travels across the country competing. Most of the game squads are co-ed, enormously educated, incredibly problematic stunts, killer flips, you get the factor. Its just like the Bring it On Squads. If your university has a conventional squad, all you ought to do is have a few variety of rhythm and get a former cheerleader or person who has already made the squad to train you. You might cross to a UCA camp. They will train you the fundamentals of cheerleading. I suppose this would be the nice alternative. If your squad is a game squad, your probabilities of constructing the squad are very narrow until you might have had years of gymnastics. Whatever occurs, I desire you the nice of success. Keep attempting and paintings tough. Remember Cheerleading is tough paintings, if it was once any simpler, it might be known as Football!

I agree that cheerleading has come a long way from when I was in high school, but a sport? I don't think I would go that far. I liked cheerleading much better when they were there to support and cheer on the sports team on the field or court and to lead the fans in cheering for their team. Call me old fashioned.

Hhmmm! An interesting question - and the mother of 3 girls all of which cheer not only for their school but also competition cheerleading! I do feel cheerleading is a sport but only to a certain degree. Yes, you have to be extremely athletic to participate in cheerleading and very much in shape however, I do not feel this makes it a sport! A sport is competing for "something" a title, trophy, etc...therefore, I do feel that All Star/Competitive Cheerleading is a sport - not school/rec cheer.

i dont think i know it's hard work im a cheerleader myself! we go to competitions and everything i am a base (a person who holds up and cathec ppl) and i was good and i picked everything up fast but it was still hard cause you have to get your hands on that girls foot properly or you drop her and she lands on her face! Plus you have to learn a cheer and you work like 5 or more hours sometimes you have to go to cheerleading camp too and be a great tumbler! you come home sore and aching and it really hurts but i love the sport it's fun it has a lot of emotion in it if your a teenager doing it but if you love the sport really well then you'll stick to it! my fave part is the tumbling and the scond is being the one thrown in the air.

I'm a cheerleader too and like you I'm sick of people saying that it's not a sport. It is really hard work! Many people don't actually realize that.
I wish the critics who say it's not a sport and that cheerleaders are dumb would actually try it. That would shut them up! ;)

OMG ME! I have practice every Monday morning at 8:30 AM until 10:30. Its ALOT of work! I broke my arm due to a backhandspring (I did it too fast)! I am a flyer in stunts and one of the bases had to scratch her leg while i was in a basket toss so she LET GO of me! So I fell and fractured my leg! It SUCKED! Cheerleading is full of emotions. I am labeled at school "The cheerleader that tries too hard" but atleast I try! :o)

I agree. It takes discipline, hard work, stamina, endurance. Cheerleaders have to be fit, and they must train. It is a sport.
