We have population more than 1/6th of the world. Still never any Olympic games have been held in India. One wonders when would it be possible to see games being held in our country?

Seriously, if you've seen the pictures of the Beijing smog, you'll start wondering whether some of the athletes will choose to sit this one out. Opinions?

One laments the removal of tug-o-war. I hear the 2008 Games in Beijing will include throwing the hammer-and-sickle and cross-straits shooting.

How did London manage to win the bid to host the 2012 Olympics?

If I remembered correctly, they are not a strong contender and the other bidders have more impressive facilities and material to help them by.

In fact, if I am correct, London had also made a late entry and was not considered a favourite to win the bid. They had also took a non arrogant approach throughout. So, what made them win?

Sadly, India's performance in Olympics has been a matter of shame for us.
I think i will be happy if Indians manage to win atleast 1 gold medal this time. We people struggle to get even 1.

What a shame? 7th biggest nation, over 1 billion people & full of talent but still our system is unable to un-earth gems that are scattered all over in India.

10 years ago, China was even worst than India in sports but they were determined to do well in Olympics & look where they stand now, almost on top of the mountain.
************HATS OFF TO CHINA FOR THAT*************

The Olympics take millions of dollars to hold, and countries send in their best super-athletes to win. Is it an entertaining peaceful event, or just a big pride-fest opportunity for countries to say, "we're the best"?

We all know that Marion Jones came out of the blue to confess that she had cheated using performance enhancing d5rugs during the Sydney Olympics. She had gotten away with it all.
What it is that triggered her off to give up everything, lose her medals, fame and land up with shame? What does she gain out of it? What is the true story behind it all?

I think people making the drugs for athletes and telling athletes which drugs to take to cover up are just as much to blame.
