Who do you will top the medals tally in the 2008 Olympics.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Sadly, India's performance in Olympics has been a matter of shame for us.
I think i will be happy if Indians manage to win atleast 1 gold medal this time. We people struggle to get even 1.
What a shame? 7th biggest nation,over 1 billion people & full of talent but still our system is unable to un-earth gems that are scattered all over in India.
10 years ago, China was even worst than India in sports but they were determined to do well in Olympics & look where they stand now, almost on top of the mountain.
************HATS OFF TO CHINA FOR THAT*************
Atleast the Chinies are telling their people to work hard unlike India which is not even giving opportunities to it's citizens to become good in sports.
People don't remember, how those medals came. All they remember is win/lose & what is written in the medals tally.
And our country India is below a lot of countries which you can't even locate on a general world map. That's a shame. A huge shame
Usually a home nation experiences a best ever performance at such a time. So i fully expect China to topple the US and will be surprised if they dont. After all what a terrific propaganda coup for them if they do! Equally they will be smarting if they dont top the madal tally! Hope Aussie can maintain our traditional good form and finish in the top 5-10 nations! Pretty damn good for only 21 million!!
The host country always wins more medals than they do at other Olympics.
I doubt that China will win the most total medals.
They have put a lot of effort into sports and it is showing at all levels.
However, it would be a big surprise if they got more total medals than anyone else.
Look at not only the medal count for 2004 but previous Olympics in the modern era. Nothing has changed significantly that will affect the medal counts. The majority of medals are from track and field and swimming. We have been dominant in both these areas in recent Olympiads and in worlds and will again dominate in these events in these Olympics. thanks to the Chinese for what will be a great Olympic venue, but their dreams of topping the USA in medal counts is just that...A dream.
no hats off to china.
they don't allow their citizens any freedom ( maybe now its better but not a whole lot i suspect). the state dictates how long a day u will train.is a dumb gold medal more prescious than a humna being's free will or happiness?
edit:sounds like ur in love with the chinese.
oh yeah, they do have more oppurtunity in sports BUT only if ur exceptional and even then ur used up like a machine so the next young person can take ur place.
sure, it's great to have a government which tell u how many kids u can have. oh yeah, ur other question. lots of china's progress has come by stifling their people's creativity for massive production and infrastructure. look at the pollution. beijing is so polluted. i don't know how they will clear up the air b4 2008 olympics.
look at creativity coming from china, zero. they have no imagination. they are masters of replicating american and euro technology. indians are good copiers too but not that good.
u should be thankful ur indian.
and for this question, regarding sports, yeah i say china is better.
woah, if u can't locate india on a map, it's not india's fault. it shows your geography is terrible ( not literally yours but one who does not know).
my geography is pretty darn good. i can locate papa new guinea or shetland islands.
edit: when i say when u can't locate a map, it does not literally mean YOU. i should have said " when someone".
While China's advance in the field of sports is quite creditable, I do not think they will be able to overtake USA in medal tally in the next olympic.
I don't necessarily beleive that they will, but I wouldn't be surprised.
China is pushing hard in all of its athletic programs, even setting a goal to medal in basketball.
its a possibility. they are goig to be looking for the best athletes to represent them in what i like to call "grass roots style" and going all arround to every hole in the wall town looking for athelets with a natural ability. USA has great depth but its harder for some one to have a natural ability but no money to get any wehre. china is comunist so they dont have to wory about the money thing and can just look for amazing athelets.
They will win more medals than the U.S. if they can sneak some crooked judges and referees into the competitions. If not, then no way.
