She was going to be indicted by the Feds for lying at their hearings. She never tested positive for any drugs, but was using and the head of Balco, Conte and her ex-husband had all of the evidence to show she was on their program. So she was not in trouble for drugging but for perjury.

She hopes to get a lighter jail sentence by telling all.
Conte got house arrest, her coach, Graham is awaiting trial.

Well there is talk of Marion being offered a plea deal which would suggest that someone out there had solid proof of steroid use which was passed onto the authorities.

Had she not accepted the deal she'd be looking at a 5 year jail term as opposed to the 6 month term prosecutors are recommending.

She's a woman with two kids, 6 months away from them isn't going to be as painful as 5 years away from them so I'm sure the impact this would have on her children was a factor.

Either that or she had a crisis of conscience and decided to come out and admit to doping, it must have caused her immense stress and unhappiness to have to keep a secret like that under wraps.

The Feds had leverage that they had reliable data on Marion Jones to get serious reformatory time, yet additionally an 8 3 hundred and sixty 5 days statute of limitations the place her 2000 Olympic medals ought to be taken away. After this 3 hundred and sixty 5 days, Jones ought to confess to ALL of her prohibited drug use, yet save the Olympic medals. So Jones has a decision: A. stay away from going to reformatory, yet possibility dropping medals, or B. save your medals yet you would be in reformatory for 3 years. feels like Jones took selection A.

Jones was busted when the cops 'hacked' her letter to her relatives. The letter's content was something like confessing to her relatives that she had took drugs during the Sydnhey Olympic. She also confessed that she had lied to when she was writing a somewhat form. It also said that she had make the relatives disapointed of her.
She was then arrested and went to court. She said that she had made the country, her relatives and her shame of herself.
If the Oympic Association found enough evidence, she could lose all her meadals in the Sydney Olympic.

I really believe Marion was just a "pawn". I know she done wrong. I honestly believe there is more to it than meets the eye. I believe she was "bullied" into remaining silent. I believe it was a huge relief for her to come clean. You could almost see a burden being lifted off of her as she tearfully confessed. I still support her.
