People and countries have tried to boycott and stop the Olympics before, the only success was World War 2.
The countries that participate are happy to win because their competition didn't show up.
In the record books it doesn't say, "someone else was much better, but they did not come"
The only thing accomplished is denying the athlete's their once in a lifetime chance.
The Beijing smog is not going to be that big a deal.
No athlete is going to miss the Olympics because of smog, food, traffic, or any other reasons.

The Olympics were revived in 1896, so for almost 2000 years no one came. The early modern Olympics were sparsely attended events. In 1916,1940, and 1944 no Olympics. 1976,1980, and 1984 had fairly widespread boycotts and almost all of the recent ones have had some nations sitting it out.
Yet the games go on and the turnout will be huge. I suspect all of us reading and answering questions in this forum will be following it closely. It will take more than smog to kill the Olympics. Afterall, if the mens marathon record can be set in Los Angeles, then you know these athletes can't be stopped.

If all Europe and the midsection East dealt with China the way they take care of the USA of a, no person can be there for the Olympics. info are, they have a lot greater reason to shun China than any valid motives they'd have for disliking the USA of a.

yup, the Beijing smog are a bit terrible. but this will not stop athletes in coming to the Games next year. maybe, some athletes will bring their gas mask with them as their precaution. imagine swimmers wearing gas masks in swimming competition. or maybe divers during diving competition. at least in fencing they dont need those mask anymore. :)
