That whole Rooney-C.Ronaldo crap went on for days after that game. How long will this last? ;-)

Instead of making speculations and bashing Italy, Portugal, England, or France (depending on who you root for) just be sad that the World Cup is over!!! Or happy if you didn't like it.

No more World Cup matches until 2010!!!

The lower scoring a sport is, the more the winners of it's matches are determined by chance. No matter how good a team is, its opponent will sometimes score by chance, not skill. If a match is high scoring, the scores earned by skill will dominate over those earned by chance.

Today's FIFA match is a perfect example. The two teams only had one point each and the winner was determined by a chance-prone shootout.

Note that I suggest that more goals should be scored, not that each goal counts more points. For statistical reasons, it might be desirable for average teams to score around 30 goals per game. (30 observations is the number at which the law of averages takes effect.) This might be accomplished by making the goal wider or higher, or imposing additional limitations on the goalie.

What do you think?

It was the most appallingly organised finale for what is supposed to be such a prestigious event. Why was there not a rostrum at some height for the dignitaries and the presenter of the trophy? The presentations were no better organised than those at the end of a local village soccer season! The spectators would have seen nothing of it. Was there a proper closing ceremony with FIFA flag being handed on to South Africa?! This was a real shame for the organisers and very very disappointing.

It seemed as if it was a classical italian song that may be a domestic anthem. I am not referring to the Bob Sinclair song nor the Go West - Pet shop boys song. This song was played as the Italians were getting their medals and touching the FIFA trophy.

According to Wikipedia on Marco Materazzi...

"He also featured prominently in Italy's World Cup Final game against France, first causing the penalty that put France ahead, then scoring a headed equalizer from a Pirlo corner kick. Later in that game he was involved in an off-the-ball incident; he is said to have racially insulted Zinedine Zidane, to which Zidane responded by headbutting Materazzi in his chest."

Everybody here is blaming Zidane's headbutt to Materazzi on something racist that the Italian player must have told him.

As of now, nobody - not even the media - knows what really happened, or who said what. All we saw was Zidane's headbutt.

Just because Zidane's parents are Algerian, you assume that Materazzi told him something racist.

Well, that's quite a racist assumption. If you can't mentally assimilate Algerians and Muslims to everybody else in the world, then you really have a problem, folks.

Plus... I don't know what you people (especially envi_v) learn in your history classes in the USA, but Italy got over Mussolini and Fascism long ago. In fact, most of the Italian population was against him, and fought side by side with the Americans to free Italy from Fascism and Nazism. When the Americans got to Italy, half of it had already been freed by the Italian Resistance movement.

The few neo-nazis in Italy are regarded by most of us as what they are: IDIOTS.

Seriously. Am I alone on this one? These are the biggest babies the sport has to offer. Congrats to winning the Cup, but realisticly, everyone from Toni, Totti, Gattuso, Grosso, Nesta, Pirlo, cry for every little thing. Its like watching 11 Cristiano Ronaldos out there. Their acting is like no other, and they want every call to go their way. The captain Fabio Cannavaro is probably the only true footballer on there thats willing to go 1-on-1 without the B.S. Even Buffon cries for C.K. and Free Kicks.

Do any of you fools actually think that Italy are worthy? If so, let me hear thine foolish answers about how diving and cheating, and further shaming "The Beautiful Game", prove that Italy are worthy champions. As a soccer player, I am ashamed to speak to my American & European friends about the WC b/c they see the Italians diving and whining as they do. Ever see the "Italian Training Camp Video"? If FIFA have any balls, they'll be able disadvantage Italy going forward.
