It was the most appallingly organised finale for what is supposed to be such a prestigious event.Why was there not a rostrum at some height for the dignitaries and the presenter of the trophy? The presentations were no better organised than those at the end of a local village soccer season! The spectators would have seen nothing of it. Was there a proper closing ceremony with FIFA flag being handed on to South Africa?! This was a real shame for the organisers and very very disappointing.

I agree, mate. was wondering myself why no flag transfer between reigning WC host (germany) and next WC host (south africa). they did that back in 2002 over in korea/japan. is it cultural difference or is FIFA right now in much disaray as italy is back home?

They have to drag the stage onto the field, and it has to be set up directly after the game in about 15-20 minutes. This greatly limits how elaborate the stage can be. I personally think they did a great job with the futuristic white sculpted stage. It looked really good. Plus, they added a lot of flare with the confetti and pyrotechnics.
I think you are comparing the olympic closing ceremony to the World Cup closing. This isn't a fair comparison, since the spirit of the world cup is to focus on the beauty of the game of soccer. Thus, they try to keep the event from becoming a spectacle of pomp and ceremony like the olympics in order to keep the spotlight on the game.

maybe the media/tv didn't cover those parts of the presentation. I watched it in the US and right after the game, they switched to golf, showing nothing of the rest of the ceremony.
I wish they would have had the other awards also, like the best young player, golden shoe, etc, also handed during the final celebrations, instead of random times...

The players where not acting like profecionals themselves(Taking their shorts of, hidding the trophy under their shirts, messing with the trophy before it was even presented)

FIFA is disorganized. There was no opening ceremony or closing. What the heck ! I hope they fix that next time !
