The more Zidane and Materazzi are silent - the more publicity they get. That's the modern media for you. It will be talked about every four years - however pathetic it seems. What was said is irrelivant - the actions will live on forever.
The bottom line.
Stop being such babies. The World Cup has ALWAYS been about emotions and drama NOT Football.
Wanting to ban Materazzi is like starting a war based on bad information. Zidane was WRONG - that's it. To millions of kids he will be one of the best footballs but just another a$$hole.
It is even absurd to contemplate what was said. Players insult each other all the time - to break the other team spirit and drive. Zidane, being a world class player, should have NEVER lost his cool - no matter what was said. No Excuse.
Also STOP using the incident as an excuse for Losing. Zidane is a human being that lost his cool and got sent off for it.
Poor role model - great football player. Nothing more nothing less.

Well friends - do not forget that inspite of holding an high responsible position , afterall ZIDANE is a human being not a saint- we can clearly see a laughing cool face of zidane suddenly turning red and headbutting Materazzi- involuntarily , pls remember involuntary actions can never be controled - so here our Cool Hero was insulted to an extreme extent that even blinded his mind that he is the captain of the French team playing the World Cup final match. So we should really punish /acuse Materazzi for provoking and driving him to do so. The lip readers have clealy revealed that Materazzi has said words like UGLY - TERRORIST- PROSTITUTE - F___ YOURSELF - which are highly insulting and breaks the moral values for which any sport is played. This is an preplanned ,foxy action by the Italian just to make an advantage to win the World cup.So friends if u think that u can stand these words if someone utters to u - then u can say no excuse to Zidane

It must have been something he (Materazzi) said. You don't just give someone a headbutt to the chest like that, My God! Good call by the assistent referee.
In the WC 1998, Patrick Kluivert (Neth) slammed Lorenzo Staelens (Belgium) to the floor after he insulted him. Kluivert was in the years before the WC accused of rape and also caused a fatal car accident. Only last year it became know what exactly Staelens had said. So I guess by 2013 we'll know what Materazzi has said.
Zinedine Zidane was a great football player with an excellent technique but there's a few wires in his head not always rightly connected. In 1998 he was sent of for standing on a Saudi player as well. Something someone with his technique does not need.
FAREWELL ZINEDINE ZIDANE.

I think that whatever Materazzi said to Zidane was wrong, however they are all professionals and perhaps Zidane should not have headbutted him. The fact of the matter is that Zidane will be remembered as a great soccer player and well Materazzi will not- he will be just a number. If Materazzi did say some racial remark to Zidane then he should be reprimanded by FIFA. Throught the tournament FIFA expressed their "Fair Play" and "Say no to racisim" campaigns and for Materazzi to say a racial remarks shows that he is not a professional and that he is not keeping in the spirit of FIFA. It is a shame for both players to be honest.
P.S. For the idiot who refered to Arabs as masses of idiots (or something like that) you are truly an idiot and must not have an education. We all have seen the news and most of us agree that Islamic Fundamentalism is a problem in our society- however to reference all Arabs are dull ignorant masses is truly a showcase of ignorance. Here is a tip open a book and read history. Arabs developed many imporant concepts that make our lives possible, concepts such algebra and zero (YOUR IQ!) Making comments like those are what adds to a society of intolerance and ignorance. We are all different but underneath it all we are the same regarless of culture, religion or social standing.

I pity Zidane. But the best way to get even with Materazzi was to have kept cool, stayed on the game, and won the cup for France. That would have been better than any headbutt!
I admire Materazzi for being smart and cunning at that moment. But I myself would not have wanted to be insulted.
I did not want to be in the shoes of those guys at that instant. I neither want a headbutt nor an insult.

Materazzi should be banned from all international events for life and his medal should be taken back. Zidane shouldn't do something that will bring him a red card but if he didn't do it no one would know about Materazzi's disgusting racist insult. Materazzi is already a very bad player (watch his compilations of fouls and other acts of violence available all over the internet) who does not deserve to be in the world championship. The world shouldn't stay silent against such a racism and religious discrimination.

The penalty was justified. Materazzi did touch Malouda. In fact, France should be given another penalty when Cannavaro tripped Malouda in the penalty box without even touching the ball. The referee could not see that clearly because of the position he was at, but TV replays shows that. France should have been the deserved 2006 World Champion. But there is always an element of luck in a football game.

It does`nt matter what Materazzi said to Zidane he has played Football for many year`s and I expect has been racially abused more times than he care`s to remember. He should have kept on walking away. People keep going on about Wayne, but when you see a player of Zidane`s calibre reacting like that, what can you say.

again, true quality players are strong enough not to react to anything said to them.
and Materazzi may have 'caused' the penalty, but it wasn't a penalty. I'm in Italy, they've replayed it from every possible angle and Materazzi didn't touch the French player, he actually pulled his foot back to avoid him.
Would love to know what Materazzi said to provoke Zidane though, something about Materazzi twisting his nipples throughout the game......??!!
