They are pretty emotional I guess but then they won the World Cup!! You also have to consider the circumstances surrounding the Italian team at the moment. Juventus and three other clubs are about to undergo serious penalties (no pun intended) because of the match fixing scandal this week. Then the Juventus team manager is still in hospital after the tried to commit suicide. Seriously, I would cry for winning the World Cup alone.
Any team would want decisions to go their way and have you ever seen a team not try to infuence the referee? How long have you been watching football?
BTW Did you see any protest by the Italians before the Zidane penalty (7th min)? No.
Any comparison with Mr. C. Ronaldo does not work because he is Cristiano Ronaldo, a mediocre Portuguese player and we are talking about ITALY the World Champions.

seriously, have you seen some of the other teams? Cristiano Ronaldo's last dive against France in slow motion was simply spectacular. France's penalty in the semi-final was barely there, the penalty last ngiht against Materazzi was non-existent, the French player dived. I could go on.... Where exactly did Italy cheat?
Just to correct some of the rubbish in some answers...
Yes, Totti has celebrated like that since his son was born earlier this year.
Italy got to the final without going to penalties in a single match. They were awarded one penalty against Australia and that was it.
They scored12 goals with 10 different players.

I agree with you completely. In fact, they won many disgusting free kicks whilst playing against Germany.
Portugal has them, France does, Italy does. These teams seem to strive off of acting instead of playing the game. It's rather unfortunate for the talent that is actually on those teams because it's submerged in a lake of whiners.
This may sound biased, but those teams should take a page out of Germany's handbook. I never saw Germany take a dive once in any of the games and call for a penalty where it wasn't deserved.
If you want to play theatrics become an actor, otherwise play the game of football and work out and become stronger if you can't handle the shoulder to shoulder contact.

Apparently so, because the only times I've seen them cry is out of pure joy after winning the World Cup trophy. Even then, it's not like their tears are pouring out like fountains, unlike some others.

I think that seeing they had just won the World Cup they had every right to get emotional. I can`t imagine any football team after they had won the World Cup not to cry tear`s of joy

The teams that dont dive go home early. I know its wrong but untill video evidence is used (and it looks as though it was last night to get Zidane sent off) teams will use the fact that 3 men (or women) cant see everything.

i totally agree, the english (and i'm not sayin this coz im british) seem to be the only team that don't throw themselve on the floor...the only time you see gerrard or rooney or beckham on the floor is if they r really hurt and even so, they usually just get on with it!
i used to really like c.ronaldo, but after seeing him prat around and throw himself on the floor or "dive" morelike, i've gone off him completely! France deserved to win the WC, coz, realistically, the italiens didnt even deserve to b in the final, they scored something like 4 goals in the whole tournament and they won most of their matches on penalties, which is great for them, but unfair on the goalies!
Anyways, life is hard and the people who usually work hard to earn something don't usually get it...sad but true!

YES.. i like how u explained it.. 11 C.Ronaldo hahaha..
hello dolly every player is free to choose his way to celebrate a goal.. that's Totti u r talking about.. they say he celebrates this way after his child was born.. i think its sweet.. like Ronaldo he puts his arm on his forehead, a spanish player run with his arms wide open like an airplane, Bati with arm machine gun.. every player wants to pick a unique thing..

It seems to be an epidemic in football these days. I think FIFA really has to address this issue before S. Africa in four years. Diving and whining is getting out of control. Ref's shouldn't determine games, players should.
