Everybody here is blaming Zidane's headbutt to Materazzi on something racist that the Italian player must have told him.

As of now, nobody - not even the media - knows what really happened, or who said what. All we saw was Zidane's headbutt.

Just because Zidane's parents are Algerian, you assume that Materazzi told him something racist.

Well, that's quite a racist assumption. If you can't mentally assimilate Algerians and Muslims to everybody else in the world, then you really have a problem, folks.

Plus... I don't know what you people (especially envi_v) learn in your history classes in the USA, but Italy got over Mussolini and Fascism long ago. In fact, most of the Italian population was against him, and fought side by side with the Americans to free Italy from Fascism and Nazism. When the Americans got to Italy, half of it had already been freed by the Italian Resistance movement.

The few neo-nazis in Italy are regarded by most of us as what they are: IDIOTS.

Well said there! In the game, as well as in life, should you be judged by your background shouldn't keep you from standing up above from the rest. Many many leaders and heroes throughout history have battled even against some sort of racism and discrimination. Their focus on their goals is what made them unique, and hence they made history with it.

Why did Mussolini than stay in power since the mid 1920s if italia was so against him. Think about that. The fact he was losing the war and italians are shitty fighters is what caused the people to change sides. They didn't want destruction brought upon their country as seen already by the occasional allied bombings. If the soviets were 'liberating' italia, I'm sure the Italians would "like that".

not only does no one know what he said, but Zidane was insulting Materazzi just as much as Materazzi was insulting him. Zidane just blew his top and acted like a child, and got what he derserved.

If anything, people are trying to justify a sports great and their love for him. So far that is the only explanation given by anyone. (and just to let you know... not all Americans are ignorant)
