I think its great. he made one mistake.....he's human after all... it does not take away everything he has done for France, Real Madrid, and Soccer!

How would you have reacted towards Materazzi if he had insulted your mother/your nationality/your honour?... or whatever it was he said that was really bad?

ged insult? So OK Zidane may have been provoked verbally. But is it justified to react with violence if someone says something you don't like? Is that how the French do things?

Why would he do that when it was obvious that they would go into shoot-outs. Having those two there and if Zidane didn't head butt, that would have probably tied the penalties!! I'm just still in shock from France's loss, they had that game. Honestly, I play soccer too (for half my life now) and I know that soccer is 90% mental and 10% physical! Whatever was said to Zidane, must have been pretty bad. I don't blame him. Now, the Italians won't shut-up about their win until 2010!!!! Great....

A lot of people are complaining about games being decided on penalty kicks. How about this?

At the end of regulation play, there are a series of 5 minute overtime periods. At the end of each overtime, each team must remove one player from the field. Any goal in overtime is a Golden Goal. This method would guarantee an eventual winner, be more in the spirit of the game, and would generally not take any longer than a full overtime plus penalty kicks that they have now.

So did France in 1998, when they beat Italy in the quarterfinals.

I guess PKs were a GREAT way to end a game back then ;-)

Get over it, folks, it's over! Better luck next time.

People wonder why Soccer won't catch on in America. It's been said it is becaus there is too little scoring. This is baloney. The action is non-stop, and the level of scoring is similar to hockey. Besides the obvious reasons of having to meet critical mass etc, I think one other issue needs to be addressed: The theatrics that are so integrated into the game do not fit in with the American model of good sportsmanship. Rolling around and crying turns off the American sports fan.
Agree, disagree?

"SAY NO TO RACISM" - what's joke for FIFA's banner!
The bastard Marco Materazzi must be punished for his harassment acts as always!
Where is the hell FIFI Committes? What will they do to protect the banner's meaning?
