"It is absolutely not true, I did not call him a terrorist. I'm ignorant. I don't even know what the word means," the Italian news agency Ansa quoted Materazzi as saying after the Italian team returned to Rome.

"The whole world saw what happened on live TV," he added

Or just he has some cynical sense of humor?

I miss it already. The world cup is something special. It was great going out to see matches, especially german restaurants to see german matches, Italian ones to see italian ones, etc. Now, four LONG years until RSA 2010. Agree?

How do we keep soccer alive in the US?

Some teams made little or no effort to play offense. Their only goal was to stick around long enough for a penalty shootout. (Portugal, England, Netherlands, sometimes Italy, etc.) NHL hockey had to change the rules because players were crowding around the goal and playing only defense the entire game. Led to alot of 0-0 and 1-0 games. That is pretty much what we saw during this World Cup. Except for a few select games (Germany-Costa Rica). I'll tell ya, I am all for being a traditional purist and keeping the rules the way they are, but this World Cup made me think twice about that! How bout you? (Even though I know this will never happen- the rules of football are pretty much set in stone).

I notice that Portugal doesn't have it's own category in the Y.A. list.

Even with the ejection, Zidane still won the Golden Ball as the World Cup's best player. He also ties the record to be the fourth palyer to score 3 goals/tournment in the history of world cup.

yes, i believe zinedine zidane is a hero bcoz he didnt giv up his pride for sport. he has proven that he is a footballer to be remembered as a legend and not as the-guy-who-got-a-red-card-on-his-last-match

if i was zidane and that materazzi said something offensive to me, i wouldve thrown him out of the pitch. wat a pity italians won bcoz of an unfair play. and italian supporters, dont take this as an insult. im just telling the truth and saying what i hav in mind.

it was a gloryless way to win the title. "italians won the world cup because they had a man advantage. however, they still couldnt score after zinedine zidane, france's soccer legend, was sent off due to a head butt to materazzi for insulting him."

i still believe france shouldve won. i wasnt rooting for france actually, bcoz i was supporting PORTUGAL. but france has proven that they are the best, knocked out spain, portugal, and brazil!

ZIDANE WILL BE REMEMBERED AS A SOCCER LEGEND. i can assure u that.

He's foreign of course. LOL. But I love his goal call. Whenever someone scores a goal he goes "GOAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAL! NO-NO-NO-NO-NOOOOOOOOOOO." LOL I love that goal call.

even if he was insulted, he should not have let those words get to him and react the way he did; yet there are a few people who seem to be defending him, why?
and saying becuaes he was insult is foolish, and if that is still acceptable then go and attack someone who insulted you and use that as your defense in court and see what happens

DON'T FORGET THAT ZIDANE SPEAKS ITALIAN

Zidane : Ordinanza di tirare il costume!! / Stop pulling my shirt!

Materazzi : Taciti, enculo, hai solamente cio che merite... / Shut up butt ficked one, you are only getting what you deserve...

Zidane : Si e cio... / Yeah, that's it....

Zidane walks away but the italian player continues

Materazzi : Meritate tutti ciò, voi gli enculato di musulmani, sporchi
terroristici / You all desrve it, you butt ****** Muslims are all dirty terroristes

That is when Zidane returns and head butts hum.
