even if he was insulted, he should not have let those words get to him and react the way he did; yet there are a few people who seem to be defending him, why?
and saying becuaes he was insult is foolish, and if that is still acceptable then go and attack someone who insulted you and use that as your defense in court and see what happens

Because they are stupid !!

What Zidane did was an utter insult to the whole French team and the game of Soccer and he should have been carded for it. If he wasn't - that would have been a terrible tragedy.

Those people who are defending Zidane are birds of the same emotional feather. When you play for a national team, you focus on the national interest first and the team's interest second-- unless your life is endangered. As a professional athlete on a national team in the final of the world cup, with minutes left in extra time, you must be mindful of the following:
1. You are the best penalty kicker on the team.
2. This is your last world cup; so you have the least amount of pressure.
3. The game is tied; so more than likely, penalty kicks will resolve the deadlock.
4. You have most, 5 minutes before penalties begin; you have only two known options--go out as a super hero if you win or a hero if your team loses.
5. You already have a man short; so as a senior player, you must defend the last 5 minutes carefully and cautiously.
How do you end up being the man short, allowing your team to be one penalty kicker short, and then worse yet, have the untried substitute kick the ball outside?
I believe that a Bumble Bee caused Zidane to bumble.
Boaz.

Im not defending his headbutt, I agree with you - it was useless and only hurt his image more. But I am going to defend his reputation - that guy is a genius of football and will always be no matter what he did. Although his headbutt was unacceptable, you have to understand him. Here you are, playing your last game of your life, in a final of a world cup, theres 10 min left in extra time and 5 min early on, you nearly scored a winning goal... The stress is building up and italians are clearly wasting time on the pitch by fakin injuries, slowly down the momentum of your team thats clearly dominating the game - and then some italian dude insults you by (apparently) calling you an arab terrorist .. I wouldve done the same thing, last game or no last game, legend or no legend. Nevertheless, Zidane should be remembered for his great football skills, not because of this one act

What Zidane did was inexcusable and it forever leaves a black spot on his farewell.

I'm sure that during his career he was insulted many many times and was able to keep his cool. However he is human and under the pressure of a final match, a terrible injury on his shoulder and after being exhausted from running for 110 minutes he just lost it for whatever Matterazzi said or did (he was grabbing on his injured shoulder).

I'm not saying what he did was OK, I'm just trying bring up some of the things that could have affected his judgment.

Well it doesn't matter what he did yesterday, only matters what he did in his career. He was offended by a stupid player and he did that. But I know is bad, but is a reaction. What would you do if you are insulted by a partner and he said bad things about you, your culture and your family?

zidane is retarded (no offence) but he shouldn't have headbutted him because that puts a bad name against his whole career work, what is the point of ending a great career with a huge scene??
