They do stop the clock (the ref) but the TV clocks keep on counting. So at the end of the allocated time they add the injury time that the ref stopped the clock.
It is the same thing as stopping the clock in other games but less time consuming.

Because the game is so long anyways, if they stopped the clock everytime someone was injured or got a foul, then it would just last FOREVER! Plus, being a soccer player, I know that you get so tired out there and at the end of halftime you just dread going back out because you've already been running consistantly for 45 minutes and now you have to run it again. So it's just a pain to start and stop the clock and easier to add a couple minutes at the end of the first and second halves.

Probably in the interests of uniformity across all levels of play around the world. Even the simplest soccer clock would cost thousands of dollars, making the game unaffordable for the cast majority of programs--both youth & adult--that now exist. A stopwatch is cheap & affordable. In fact, the ref doesn't even need a stopwatch, since stoppages during games are infrequent. He (or she) can simply take an ordinary watch, set it to 11:15, start the game, then blow the whistle at 12:00 or a minute or so thereafter.

This isn't about sport, it's about politics. The greatest thing about football is that it represents people and it represents their culture and their beliefs. Unfortunately sometimes you're bound to get situations where those beliefs get out of hand and it's then that football becomes a platform for many for violence. In Egypt the situation's made worse because of the unstable nature of the country and its government. People there are unhappy, they're dissatisfied and they're severely frustrated with the status quo. Violence is a regular fact of daily life by now, which is awful! And today we had two clubs who have differing political opinions, meeting in a stadium that didn't have enough police (because of the current government's inability to organise the police), with both sets of fans eager for confrontation. Unfortunately the initial adulation and joy felt by the Al-Masry fans after what was an amazing result, turned into aggression. This isn't about football. It's about Egyptian society and the chaos that exists there as a result of lack of government authority and control.

Beacause it will become a boring game. Part of the cool things about soccer its fast paced decisions that players have to make. It keeps your adrenaline pumping. There is no time for planning and drawing and comming up with plays. Its what you have in that moment on the field that counts.

old men controlling the rules.... when soccer first got serious watches did not have stop hands... question is, do you stop time at the whistle or when the body is rolling around in agony, take a look at the timing differential between an event and whistle - quite a difference
