I am a die-hard Italian fan and had I answered this question a few hours ago I would have said that Zidane was wrong without doubt. But after I heard about Zidane’s Algerian and Muslim roots I started thinking what Materazzi could have said. I am a Muslim and if it’s as bad as what I’m thinking then I probably would have done the same thing. You just don’t mess with people’s religion and worst yet their parent’s religion. I’m not justifying Zidane’s actions though….he should have been bigger. Why does it always have to come down to religion or race????

No one knows what he said. What Zidane did was a real act of shame. Such a great player with such a great career should've known better to control his temper. Insults and bad things are always said between players in every single match, there is no reason or excuse for him to lose his temper the way he did. This is not the first time he does that 5 years ago he did it in a Champions league match while playing for Juventus. Its a shame the way he finished his professional career.
And its not a shame that Italy won they way they did. As a soccer player your exposed to this kind of things from other players and from the fans, even from coaches or dont you remeber the spain coach Luis Aragones when he racially abused Thierry Henry in 2004. But we didnt see Thierry Henry hitting the coach or headbutting him.
So Zidane's act was not justified!

Height of STUPIDITY! Nothing can justify that moronic final act.
Only silly little boys react to insults or bad words.

According to the BBC Sports website, Zizou has a previous history of headbutts and red cards.

Absolutely not. Though I believe ZiZou is the best player in the world, resorting to that kind of retaliation is unacceptable at any level of football. Leave that for the parking lot after the match....

It doesn't matter what was said, you simply don't hurt your team like Zizou did yesterday. If he wanted to confront someone, he should have waited until after the game.

First Rooney, now Zizou. I'm not sure what these guys are thinking out there.

Such acts can never be justified, however the world will understand why he did what he did. The real shame goes to Materazzi who provoke zizou into such an act. It is not an honour to win with that.

NO!!!!!! no matter what Materazzi said that action can never be justified especially in sports, i mean there are children who are watching the game, children who see these men as heroes what is Zidane showing these children about sportsmanship. Imagine what the kid who walked out on the field with Zidane must be thinking now.

I don't think he should have headbutted Matarazzi, but Matarazzi surely said something to piss him off enough to turn physical. And I think Zidane just made an instincitve move. He regretted it after it happened, you could tell. It was just too late. But I think Matarazzi did bring it upon himself. Men should just come with a mute button. I just couldn't believe he hit him hard enough to knock him on his ***. It was too funny!

When toti spit in someone face everyone was up in arms and calling for his head. Zidane headbutts someone and anti-Italians support the violent perpetrator. Anti-Italians must be violent blood thirsty hooligans and thus criminals of society.

no. He's not a child, you are at the world cup, act like a man. If Matarazzi was being a child too, then why do you have to step down to his level? (actually worst..but whatever)

what's done is done.
