Yeah, its a shame, he should have controlled his temper. At the end of his career, and when he will be remembered as a great sports person compared to Pele and Maradonna, this was like a black mark. Surely in times to come when he reviews his life and career, he will wish he had not done this.

Zidane always had a problem with bad temper. Now if he claims he attacked Metarazzi because of a racial slur, how does he explain stomping on a Saudi Arabian player before. Surely the Saudi player would not have called him a dirty Arab or terrorist?
Zidane was just frustrated that he was being kept under control by the Italian defense in his last game and took it out on Metarazzi who might have said something out of the heat of the moment.

rumours are flying all around, and that's just what they are..rumours. We don't know what was said, and we dont' know if during the game at some point Zidane instigated a comment. So please people, we don't know what was said, but whatever it was, this was Zidanes last game and he should have gone off with class.

and if you look back, for those who keep insisting that Zidane was cool and collective, this isn't the first time he has done such an act.

learn a little about it before you make such accusations!

ROME (Reuters) - Italy defender Marco Materazzi on Monday denied a report that he had called Zinedine Zidane a "dirty terrorist" seconds before the French captain head-butted him in Sunday's World Cup final.

"It is absolutely not true, I did not call him a terrorist. I'm ignorant. I don't even know what the word means," the Italian news agency Ansa quoted Materazzi as saying after the Italian team returned to Rome.

"The whole world saw what happened on live TV," he added.

The Paris-based anti-racism group SOS Racism had earlier quoted well informed sources as saying Materazzi had apparently used the phrase.

"According to several very well informed sources from the world of football, it would seem that the Italian player Marco Materazzi called Zinedine Zidane a 'dirty terrorist'," SOS Racism said in a statement.

Zidane, the son of Algerian immigrants, was shown a red card after the incident and Italy went on to win on penalties after the match was tied 1-1 following extra time.

SOS Racism called for an inquiry and said world soccer's governing body FIFA had recently toughened sanctions against racism.

"It's for this reason that SOS Racism asks in a determined fashion for FIFA to shed light on this altercation and that sanctions laid out in the official rules be applied should this be the case," SOS Racism said.

French television reported that Zidane would talk about the incident "in the coming days".

Rumour is that the player he head butted said something very racist. I'm sure he wouldn't have done it without good reason. Zidane will be holding a press conference in the next few days to clear things up.

He probably should not have done that at such a critical point in the game but, who cares that guy deserved it. I support Zizou all the way!! He still got the golden shoe and already has a world cup win in his pocket.

Great career Zidane!!!

such thing is not expected from the player like zidane,he had to keep his nerves cool for the success of his team but after all he is a human , there was some thing irritating which enforced him to behave like that
that's very shame to call such hideous words to any body.
