ged insult? So OK Zidane may have been provoked verbally. But is it justified to react with violence if someone says something you don't like? Is that how the French do things?

Justifying him and stressing he was provoked makes them feel better. They have a couple of scapegoats (Materazzi, the red card) and their defeat is less bitter that way. They still can dream that they would have won the World Cup, if it hadn't been for that accident.

A great display of sportsmanship, from Zinedine Zidane to Jacques Chirac...

im half french and thats how we do things. that italian deserved it.
i wont lie and say its a good thing that zidan "headered" him,but if i was insulted like that id definatly knock him out. ofcourse its bad for the kids at home, thats clear.reacting with violence is very rong as well but so is insulting someone.

I think for another player in another game, it wouldn't have been such a shock. That it was the final, that it was the captain of the team, that the captain happened to be Zidane...that's really what made it serious. I wonder what the guy said, though.

physical response like this should never be condoned. I mean seriously people, its a GAME!!! Its supposed to be fun. Even if its the world cup. Im not condoning the verbal abuse either, but the headbut was totally unnessecary

why are you generalizing?
Zidane did what he did because he was obviously out of control and upset. I'm definately not saying it was right..heck I'm Italian and I'm glad we won. But don't assume the french think it was right, and don't put them all in one basket!

To make things worse I just heard on the news that he was named MVP after that headbutt. No wonder why lots of people don't like the French. I have never been prejudice but this makes you wonder.
