I heard rumors that he wanted to come back to Chicago. I say no way! He closed his bridges when he left.

WIth the defection of Stan Conte and Ned Colleti and the most likely defection by Jason Schmidt (all to their nemesis the Dodgers), does any other Giants fan feel the days of the Giants as a contender are over? What will it take to re-build? Do they need to have McGowan get bought out or fire Sabean? I'd appreciate your thoughts.

It very similar to Kazakh sport, shurik, where we take dogs, shoot them in a field, and then have a party.

Despite that he has been caught betting on baseball and never owned up to it as far as I know, I believe that the numbers he put during his great carreer speak for themselves, not to mention his work ethic and desire to win.

One can simply look at quite a few greats inducted in Cooperstown over the decades that were quite unsavoury characters, including a couple that could be considered racists.

Any thoughts?

He's a lifetime .286 hitter, and averages 25 home runs and 85 RBI's a year. He's 31 years old now, 36 when this contract ends. No doubt, he's a good player, but $14 million/yr? Why not try out a farm-system rookie for $500,000? Even if the rookie only puts up 15 HR's and 60 RBI's, you could use that money to keep other key players. I just don't get it.

Everbody always talk about the yankees and how they always spend money and how money does'nt buy a ring. Well, how come i don't hear anyone complaining about how the Red Sox have been throwing their money around this offseason ? The Red Sox look good on paper but they will find out just like the yankees that money does not buy a ring. Anything can happen over 162 games afterall who thought the tigers would be in the world series ?. I'm a yankee fan but if Santana and Liriano stay healthy then the twins should be the favorite to win it all.

Their bullpen: Rivera, Proctor, Villone, and Farnsworth

Their prospects: Hughes and Sanchez

Not to mention their offense has: Damon, Jeter, Abreu, Rodriguez, Giambi, Posada, Matsui, and Cano.

The Cubs offer him 40 million for four years. For that kind of money I wonder if he is capable of being a number 2 pitcher. Let me know is he worth it and what kind of pitcher he is?
