The goal of Pride/UFC/K-1 type fighting events are to win by knockouts (KO's or TKO's), submissions, or scoring decision. Fights occur in a controlled environment (ie - the ring) with one-on-one adversaries. Training is specifically focused on acheiving these goals. I am going to make an assumption that fighters go into every match with the personal goal to knockout their opponent, or force a submission because it is a more definitive victory. With all of this in mind, the fighting they do is extremely effective for the goals they are striving to achieve, and I have a lot of respect for their skills.

However, TKO, KO, and submissions are not the only possible goals, or outcomes to a fight. Also more variables exist in the proverbial "real world", such as, terrain, space, multiple combatants, etc. So are these types of events really the only gauge of "effectiveness" for all styles of Martial Arts? If it's not "ring worthy", is it automatically worthless?

By intense I mean a camp where you can live and train for months at a time. I believe LA has been voted number one in the US (I'm sure opinions vary). I've heard great things about phuket...anyone with experience here?

The 1988 summer games were held in Seol, South Korea.

But when I looked up the 1988 Olympics, I found the 1988 WINTER games held in Calgary, Alberta.

Further research indicates double-competition years (where both winter and summer were held) from 1924 through 1992.

Why?

The White Sox surprised everyone two years ago by winning it, Minnesota won it last year. Detroit got the wild card and made it to the World Series. Cleveland is loaded with tremendous talent, a make or break it year for them. Who do you all see winning the AL Central. I see Cleveland.

Okay, so in Bynum, you have a young center who has much potential, much room for improvement, and has proven already to be quite the shot blocker (see the one he had against Mike James). Ultimately, though, he may or may not turn out to be a bust. And if he doesn't, by the time he comes into his own, Kobe may already be past his prime.
But there's no denying the fact that Bynum has balls (see the dunk he had against Shaq last year)...

In Kidd, you have an aging all-star who might work in the triangle offense or might not (i.e. The Glove, more like The Rag these days). But at the same time, Kidd & Kobe, along with L.O., could form a dynamic trio during Kobe's prime.

So, would you pull the trigger?

PS If the trade were to happen, what would happen to Abdul-Jabbar, who was hired solely to train/coach Bynum? Would he be shipped to NJ, too? lol.

how many of you think that zach randolph was snubbed from the all-star game. personally, i don't think zach should have to suffer just because portland sucks this year. also, this is a game designed for selfish players like z-bo. besides, his averages are superior to that of shawn marion, josh howard and mehmet okur.

I went up to Fenway last season, u know one of the games of the 5-game sweep :)... and they treat Yankee fans like **** up there. I got spat at by a fat drunken bastard outside the park, and got a beer bottle thrown at me. And of course, being the courtious and mellow-mannered person i am, i ignored it. Bo-Sox fans NEVER get treated like that in the Bronx. They're like God-damned animals. NO CLASS & NO RESPECT!!! (PS: i know they're not all like that, just like not all Yankee fans aren't stupid arrogant idiots who only know about the Yankees.)

I am a HUGE hockey fan (college and NHL). I guess I haven't really gotten into it a whole lot more than watching the game and checking out stats. I've been seeing a lot of questions/comments on here about his "ignorance", "living in the stone age", etc. where the game is concerned.

Now before I get any stupid remarks like "If you were a REAL hockey fan, you'd know why..." I want to let you know that I genuinely want to know others' opinions and reasons on this matter. I am not interested in your opinion on the level of my love for the game because I don't know much about this. Of course I mean this in the kindest way :) Hey, I've read how some people answer, and it can be pretty mean and disrespectful to the asker.

Like I said, I truly want to get an idea of what's going on. Thanks!!
