All-Star games are popularity contests. In a perfect world, Shaq doesn't even touch the floor in Las Vegas. Look at the MLB. It's the same way. Did Zach Randolph deserve to be there? Definitely. I don't think starting would've been an option, but as a reserve for sure. Portland being a 4th place team also might have something to do with it. But, these numbers tell the whole story:
Zach Randolph: 24 pts/game, 10.2 rebs/game
Players that made it over Randolph:
Mehmet Okur: 18.4 pts./game, 7.4 rebs/game
(Plays for 1st place Utah)
Tim Duncan: 20.3 pts/game, 10.6 rebs/game
(Plays for 2nd place San Antonio)
Amare Stoudemire: 19.9 pts./game, 9.5 rebs/game
(Plays for 1st place Phoenix)
Those are three players that Randolph deserved to make it over. But, it's hard to argue for a player that plays on a bad team against three guys who play for winners, especially in pro sports. It's too bad, because Randolph is a great player. I'd take him over any of those three in any game.

The "Dough Boy" gets snubbed again. A great deal of his not being selected, has to do with the fact he's been playing on a losing team for so long. Very few players get selected to the all-star team from teams with losing records. Also, (right or wrong) he has the reputation of being a "black hole" when he touches the ball, and a thug off the court. All of these things are reasons why he was "overlooked" once again. Maybe if he became more of a team player, and was on a team with a winning record, he'd get an all-star nod. I would take Shawn Marion, Mehmet Okur, and Josh Howard over Randolph any day of the week (and there teams are all having terrific seasons). However, an argument in Zack's favor, would be that Ray Allen made the team, and the Sonics are a worse team then the Blazers.

Sorry but Zach Randolph has only two skills: scoring and rebounding. His defence leaves alot to be desired and has never established himself as a true leader (Note Gilbert Arenas, scoring does not equate to leadership). The others you mentioned have far better well rounded games. Marion is the most versital player in the NBA far and away. Howard is getting there as well. While you could make a case that Zach should have gone over Okur, I would make the case that Okur's teammate Deron Williams should have gone over both of them.

He didn't get snubbed, west just has too much talent, marion and howard are better all-around players, might make a case over okur, but he's on a winning team. Zach's averages are inflated, if your on a bad team and you're the only good player, your going to get alot of shots.

Okur shouldn't have made it
but with all the injuries and replacements the all star team basically extended to 16 players from the west with Iverson, Boozer, nash, and yao sitting out
randolph was definatly hurt by his teams record just like a few years ago but all star teams always give it up to players with records and there were so many replacements this year I don't see how you can complain with 16 all stars on a 12 player roster

Just because his ppg and reb are up this year it doesnt mean he elevated his game to all start status. he's turnovers are more than his assists, steals and blocks combined!Thats a Eddy Curry type of hustle, lol. The three guys you mentioned all play defense and also do the little things that dont show up on the stat sheet. and just to compare, what if you took marion and howard off their great teams and placed them in a situation like portland's, their numbers would go through the roof.

He's definitely having a great year. I think a different guy with a different rep would be in with his same numbers. He is a victim of the "thug" tag that Portland has been labeled with, deserving or not. He deserved to be there, but, then again, so did a lot of other guys and there is only so many roster spots.
