I think it is the combination of all the injuries. Not just Luke. The Lakers have been without 2 starters for a couple of months. Kwame isn't that great offensively but without him in the middle teams are driving the lane at will. Bynum is a good shot blocker but he is to thin to hold his position against the stronger players and gets himself into foul trouble. When Mihms went down for the year it really hurt the Lakers depth. Lamar is still not at full strength and Kobe seems to be passing more this year. Remember hes coming off Knee surgery too and despite his play I think he hasn't been as good as Kobe can be.They still need a better point guard and they need to get healthy if they want to contend.

I think Phil Jackson has done a great coaching job, and the Lakers REALLY overachieved during the first part of the season. Now, reality is setting in...this is only an average basketball team. I feel like the Lakers need to make a trade before the deadline (to get a guy like Jason Kidd). However, that being said, I wouldn't trade Bynum. He's to young, and has to much of a huge upside. However, other then Bryant, anyone else on the roster, including Odom, is expendable, in my opinion, for the right price. The Lakers will have difficulty making it past the first round of the playoffs, unless a significant deal is made before the deadline.

the home scehdule was the main reason they did well at the beginning of the season, but losing Odom for so long was also a factor. Even though he's back it takes a while to get health and chemistry to the same level. Luke walton was a big factor early on but then teams realized that he can be a threat and started game planning around that to slow him down.

The Lakers are a very young team and their inexperience is beginning to show. Yes, constant injuries to key players have hurt them from the very start, but having Kobe on board will always keep the team competitive. It's really the team's lack of veteran players that's causing their woes. Perhaps, they should start by trading for an experienced playmaker. Smush is too incompetent at the point while Farmar hasn't adjusted himself to the pro game. Hey, why don't they sign Scottie Pippen. The guy is very available and Kobe is all for it.

I think they have the 'we can turn it on anytime we want' attitude which is dangerous. I mean the blazers are better than last year, but not better than the lakers (and i'm a blazer fan!). luke couldn't be that big of a difference for them. when odom went down, it wasn't an issue, so you'd think that losing walton wouldn't hurt that much. Perhaps they are still not used to playing with odom in there. My gut tells me though that it's more mental than anything else.

I dont know, im suprised too. I think they need to start playing a little defense. They seem to play good against the elite teams but poorly against the weak teams. The loss of luke is hurting them but the main reason is they've been playing poor defense lately.
