...there would be some sort of consensus about which religion is the correct one?

I mean, we have a pretty good idea (reasonable people do, anyway) that evolution is the Real Deal...I'm sure there's a tiny proportion of scientists who don't buy it, for whatever reason, but there's a huge majority that does recognize it for the very probably truth that it is. Same with the age of the earth, solar system, universe, etc. And since we're talking about scientists, that's saying something, isn't it?

But why is there such a multicotomy (I think I just made that word up) in the realm of religion? Sure, some religions are more popular than others (due, I think, to tactics involving threats/bribery on the part of some), but why doesn't the One True Religion (as all religions claim to be) have the majority of humanity in its sway?

Found this pie chart, in case you're curious:

If you believe...
In a spiritual guider, who changes events before they should happen to help keep you safe.
Non-believe in Jesus is God.
Generally cares about others, and so does good deeds.

What religion would that be?

As a satanist is my duty to ask, how many of you wear clothing to do nothing more than protect you from the elements? How many of you wear jewelry? You are guilty of pride. And perhaps vanity. How many of you eat more than what it takes to survive? How many of you are fat for no reason? You are guilty of gluttony and probably sloth. How many of you wish you could have the things others have? You are probably gulty of greed. Just an observation but how many of you actually agree with this? What is your reasoning?
There is more, but this is good for starters.
Please explain yourselves. And again, this is only for crispies, all others please kindly disregard this question.
Thank you.

Uncle Wayne had asked me if I thought I could read another's soul, and this caused me some thought. First, as an Atheist, I have to consider my position on souls: Do I believe in them? Yes, I think I do.

Just not for me.

See, I accept that there is an extra dimension to existence, and most people have, in addition to the physical self, connection to the entirety of the Universe, expressed as the spiritual--their "soul." This requires no overlord deity, it is that extra dimension that Einstein perceived and that most people feel the pull of, feel that they can connect with ancestors or other deceased persons, and really enjoy the connection. For those who believe, also, they connect with the oneness of the Universe and relate to it as a deity.

This is a natural physical law, and we call it spirituality. I, however, believe I am deficient in this. There is only physical for me, no spirit, no soul. Perhaps that's why I connect so intensely to people, I think.

I'm sure if I googled 'atheist holiday' I would get some pretty funny stuff, but I was wondering what the R&S atheists have to say about it. At first my idea was to claim March 14 (3.14, Pi) to celebrate the beauty of nature and math.... so heart warming, but I typed it into google.ca (Canadian Google) and that day is already taken. Apparently it is steak & blow_job day. I'm serious look it up.

(yes I know atheism is not a religion, but we have Arbour Day and Labour Day, you get my point)

So what do you think would make a good atheist holiday?

I have often heard that God often nudges us in the direction we are supposed to go. My dad recently gave me the idea to start a food pantry in our local area, but I have questions about my own motives. Sure, I would like to help people. But a greater motivation for establishing this food pantry is to gain entry into an elite university. Any suggestions on how to solve this?

There are over 30,000 Christian denominations, so some of the ones you don't believe will probably in your view be false. Eg. some Anglicans view Catholics as Mary-worshiping idolaters, and some Catholics have negative views of the Orthodox & other denominations as being 'false' break-aways from the true church. Some Greek Orthodox say they're the only true, original Church, since the new testament is a Greek bible.

Most Christians believe if you reject Jesus you'll be condemned for eternity. So who do you believe and hope God will rather accept:

- the person that accepts Jesus for the wrong reasons; ie.a person who believed and defended the wrong denomination, whose false teachings are directly against what Jesus actually taught;

OR

- the person who rejected the Church because the Church's teachings were indeed false and the person who left was exactly right. The person subseqently left Jesus because perhaps the majority ignorantly convinced that person they're wrong.
