Good and bad are subjective. All you have to do is change your view of the "wrong reasons." I think it is perfectly acceptable to do a public works project to further your own career, because in the end, you're still helping the public anyway.
Hope that helps! : )

If God wants the food pantry opened, He will let it be opened.
If you start the food pantry and do not get into the elite university, then you will know the answer. God didn`t want you in that elite university.

The deed you're talking about will help others. If a side benefit is that it will also help you I see no problem with it. Gaining entry into an elite university is not a bad thing, so if the two things happen because of your decision, more power to you!

Anytime anything is done there are many results, some good some bad, some general, and some personal. Any time we do good things, we might hope that people would think better of us. That does not make it bad. If in doing things your main goal is manipulating people, then the bad might be greater than the good. I don't think YHVH is against multiple good results from a given act. Concentrate on the greater good- helping people, and pleasing YHVH. be happy also that good things will happen to you.

If u do it to gain entry into a university then thats all what you will get nothing else. But if you do it to please God and purify your intention for His sake and ask Him to put you into paradise for doing this deed, then thats what you will get, provided your concept of God is correct, if you are doing for someone else thinking he is the god.... then it will not reach The true God who can take you to paradise.
and believe me if you do it with the correct intention for The Right and true God, you will get His Pleasure and the paradise.... and ofcourse you will get the university too. but by then you wud have realised that the pleasure of pleasing the True Lord is greater than the pleasure of going to a good university.
Hope this makes sense.
Having the correct intention is better than the deed itself.A beautiful intention makes the small deeds more grand and having the wrong intentions make even the greatest of deeds small and nill .

The Bible says that doing good things is good, even if your motivation is suspect. It's certainly better than doing bad things, for any reason. Don't you think? Do what is right, and your heart will follow. You will become whatever you think about, and practice. Your motivation will improve with time. And, perhaps you are doing it for more than one reason. Hope that helps you.

It has been argued that anyone doing a charitable deed is doing it for selfish reasons. For example, you do it because it feels good. So go and do it. The people you help are depending on you, and it's not like this deed has any strings attached, you are not guaranteed of anything nor are you requiring others to be indebted to you.
