Let me first start off by saying I do not nor will I claim to know the meanings behind what God dose.
That being said besides for the value of the Book of Ruth as a literary piece and its moralistic lessons about charity and helping others. The Book of Ruth chronicles the origins of King David, and hence the Davidic line.

So far, LadySuri has given the best answer. I would also note that the Bible only rarely refers to individual books by name. Hence, it's likely that giving the book the name of "Ruth" is simply an after-thought by later writers. On the other hand, it *is* about Ruth, and you know that there are many books in the Bible named after their major figure.

This is a website with very interesting reading - being a Messianic Christian it all makes sense to me. I know Lady Suri will disagree, but i am only answering your question. Nearer the bottom on the site will probably give you the answer - but it's all worth a read. Ruth did convert to Naomi's faith - and the the baby she and Boaz had came from the line of the promised Messiah..Matthew ch1...
God uses the 'lesser' things to bring the 'wise' in line with His purpose - God is no respecter of persons..
Good question.

If i can just add: there are times when we are allowed to know why God does certain things - those who have a personal relationship with Him can testify to this.

Because converts are on an equal footing with people who have that religion from birth.

How ?
When they don't even know who is whom.
Blindly kicking themselves on their own butts.
Trying to run themselves out of town too.
Until they even nail the wrong man to the cross.
While Jesus walk away free.
The greatest embarassment of the century among the community.
Without being aware of the mess of their own creation with self lack of knowledge.
Luke 8.10,17
What do you think?
