I'm sure if I googled 'atheist holiday' I would get some pretty funny stuff, but I was wondering what the R&S atheists have to say about it. At first my idea was to claim March 14 (3.14, Pi) to celebrate the beauty of nature and math.... so heart warming, but I typed it into google.ca (Canadian Google) and that day is already taken. Apparently it is steak & blow_job day. I'm serious look it up.

(yes I know atheism is not a religion, but we have Arbour Day and Labour Day, you get my point)

So what do you think would make a good atheist holiday?

You know, now that you mention it, I believe I DO want an atheist holiday. Well, UNholiday. I think it might be time that we got a bit of recognition from the rest of the world. Let's call it "Take an Atheist to Lunch Day", and maybe we can all get free meals out of it.

i don't really understand what the point of an atheist holiday would be. Holidays are to take a break from something(i.e Labour Day) or to celebrate something( i.e christmas). How do take a break from not believing in God?? How do you celebrate not believing in anything???

my father is an atheist. and he celebrates any holiday he can benefit from. He worships the energy of opportunity. So he'll agree with any holiday you create as long as he can get something out of it. Personally myself. I think August is a good time for a holiday. So they can stand out from the other holiday's. And the sun will shine bright on there little unbelieving hearts and keep them warm. lol Thank GOD i believe.

Darwins birthday, ftw.

Most narrowminded fundies think we use "On The Origin of Species" as like, a bible. It's funny.

Mybe the day John Lennon was shot too? Like Christmas and Easter, but way better?

We could have like, reenactment pagents and all the trimmings. "And because Mrs Darwin was a real person and this is a real story, she didn't need to find room in some damn inn, our friend Charles was born in..."

Lol.

Wait...like a day to celebrate not having faith or belonging to a religion? I don't understand. Your March 14th idea was cool to celebrate nature and math...but how could that be an ATHEIST holiday? lol I'm sorry...I'm not religious at all so don't think I'm insulting you or anything, I'm honestly just confused.

Excuse me, Pi day is not 3/14. Pi day falls during the 14th month on the third day.

I'm only kidding, sorry.

No, I don't want a holiday. Seeing as though holidays are supposed to be holy, and that, on our part, would be kind of hypocritical.

Winter Soltice..or any changing of the seasons. It is a
reverence for the natural world..one to see and believe
in. It's basically an appreciation for every single day
we have on earth...the eternal holiday.

the simple fact that 99% of all atheists agree that 99% of all holidays are BS would lead me to believe that making a holiday to represent the atheists would not only be contradictory but perhaps not needed. We are doing fine and need none of the hoopla. Thanks anyway

The idea of an atheist holiday has little interest to me, but if I can get an extra day off, I would surely support it.
