my whole family's religion is Roman Catholic. one time, my dad's co-worker brought him to a Christian church. he liked it, and so he brought me there as well. i have to admit that i had great fun. now he wants me and my mom to convert with him. i don't know why, but i have this feeling that's holding me back from doing so. maybe it's 'cause i'm not entirely familiar with Christianity? i dunno...any advice?

what my plan was for today, can you tell me? If I asked you what my favorite color was, can you tell me? How about my birthday? What I ate for last night?

Obviously, I would have to tell you these things directly myself.

So if we want to learn more about God, how come the first person we run to is everyone else but God?

I see a lot of varying Christian denomnations and Atheist views here and a fair amount of Muslim and pagans of various types. I would like to hear more from Buddhists and Hindus as I've only seen a sprinkling of posts from those religions. Who would you like to hear more from?

Who, apart from Jehovah's Witnesses, teach this? And how do you explain what Jesus said about Lazarus 'being in the bosom of Abraham' after he died?

NIV
Leviticus 20:17
IF A MAN MARRIES HIS SISTER, THE DAUGHTER OF EITHER HIS FATHER OR HIS MOTHER, and they have sexual relations, it is a disgrace. They must be cut off before the eyes of their people. He has dishonored his sister and will be held responsible

Deuteronomy 27:22
"CURSED IS THE MAN WHO SLEEPS WITH HIS SISTER, THE DAUGHTER OF HIS FATHER or the daughter of his mother." Then all the people shall say, "Amen!"

Genesis 20:11-12
Abraham replied, "I said to myself, 'There is surely no fear of God in this place, and they will kill me because of my wife.' Besides, SHE REALLY IS MY SISTER, THE DAUGHTER OF MY FATHER though not of my mother; AND SHE BECAME MY WIFE

Obviously, whoever wrote Leviticus and Deuteronomy didn’t know that Sarah was Abraham’s sister... Abraham made a big fortune pimping his wife to the most prominent kings in the region telling them, “She is my sister!” God didn’t curse Abraham at all, but he blessed him beyond his wildest dreams…

Tonight the Newman club at my college is going to the Festival of Praise (the FOP). Its an awesome event and you can really feel God's presence there. After the FOP they pray over people. I'm torn between having that done or not. I know that the group im going with will want me to (because of what happend monday) but Im scared too. I know that its a good thing, but I dont want to break down and cry infront of all these strangers.
What do you suggest?

I'm not Catholic but it's not hard to see that these references to paedophilia are pointless and going nowhere, quite apart from being hurtful and abusive to the vast majority of decent, devout priests.
I'm sure many of the Catholic priests could put a lot of the Protestant clergy to shame.
Are we going to see an end to this vilification?

from the jewish and Islamic view Jesus was a prophet. However, Christian's worship him as the son of God or God taken human form. If Jews and Muslims are right then Christian's are commiting blasphemy. How will God punish them for their false worship?

Keep in mind that there are different kinds of religious experiences. I am talking about the kind where someone believes they have had a direct experience with a spiritual being of some kind.

Theists of whatever kind, how do you regard the experiences of people in other religions? Do you judge them by a different standard than the religious experiences people have in your own religion? Why?

Atheists, I know that others' religious experiences would hold no proof for *you*, just as a Christian's religious experience would not be proof for a Pagan. However, do you automatically assume that people who have them are simply hallucinating (and is that really fair?), or do you allow that perhaps they just might be perceiving a valid reality, even if their experience wouldn't be sufficient proof for anybody outside of themselves? Why?

Why does Israel want their lost tribes back in their country? The world is moving on towards the ideal of multiculturalism (at least trying), but Israel wants their whole nation for their own tribes, isn't it a narrow minded thing to do?

But teaches its followers that they are God's only prophet on earth, Who actually IS God's prophet?

"IDENTIFYING THE PROPHET"

These questions can be answered in the affirmative. Who is this prophet?

This prophet was not one man, but a body of men and women. It was the small group of footstep followers of Jesus Christ, known at that time as International Bible Students. Today they are known as Jehovah's Christian witnesses.

Of course, it is easy to say that this group acts as a "prophet" of God. It is another thing to prove it. The only way that this can be done is to review the record. What does it show? WT. 4/1/72 p 197 (see Deut. 18::21)

Here you go kids...WBTS is God's Prophet, by their own claim...and they are wrong, time and time again...WAKE UP Kids, and look at the Gospel.

There is so much proof that they believe that they alone are God's prophet. Can someone please help me understand this circular thinking?

Given there is evidence humanity has always had the desire to worship something (and animals do not, as far as I understand), where does this urge to worship a force more powerful than ourselves come from? Or is there real evidence to support the existence of a superior intelligence and power 'out there'?

I am Indian and thus I practice a combination of the Indian dharmic disciplines (Hinduism, Buddhism, Sikhism and Jainism). If I could combine my religion with another religion I would choose to combine it with Kabbalah Judaism.

What about you???

A few years back in Tulsa, Ok a group of Christian students at a high school requested they be allowed to pray in school. The basis for this request was the fact that the Muslim students were allowed to pray multiple times a day, as required by their religion. The Christian students never received a reply one way or the other. That is until they decided to go ahead and pray. At that point they were taken into the office for discipline. This may seem like a small thing to anyone who is not a Christian, but it is definately discrimination. Now for those of you who are not schooled in the Bible, we are told to pray without ceasing. So this is as much a mandate of our religion as the Muslims praying 5 times a day.
Why is it wrong to discriminate against Muslims, Jews, Hindus, Buddhists, but okay to discriminate against Christians?
Christians are being judged by a few, and unfortunately those are generally the ones who are misbehaving.
