Tonight the Newman club at my college is going to the Festival of Praise (the FOP). Its an awesome event and you can really feel God's presence there. After the FOP they pray over people. I'm torn between having that done or not. I know that the group im going with will want me to (because of what happend monday) but Im scared too. I know that its a good thing, but I dont want to break down and cry infront of all these strangers.
What do you suggest?

Sounds pretty shady, I would not go to something so occultic, its not healthy for the human mind.

I agree with just waiting and seeing what happens when the time comes. Pray about it before hand.

When my daughter was two weeks old (a day shy of), my husband and I took her to church for the first time. It was a healing service where the pastor marks a cross on the person's forehead with oil and prays for the person. I wasn't going to go up because I was holding our daughter, but my husband encouraged me too. It was not only a wonderful experience for me, but even more so when the pastor also marked and prayed over my innocent newborn.

Also, Bill, I wouldn't accuse somebody of being stupid when your incomprehensible line lacks sentence structure and has atrocious spelling.

Do you really trust these friends? If you do then just go and don't worry about how you'll react. These kind of events get very emotional and if you want to cry then you will. Oh, these are also good places for thiefs, so leave your purse at home and just carry a little cash and an id in your pocket. Be careful and have fun.

Two things:
-If you're comfortable enough, go ahead, and don't be scared. I used to be scared too, but I realized that it feels good. The others won't think you're ridiculous. They'll see that you've been touched, and just might be proud of you, although they're strangers.
-On the other hand, if you "don't" feel comfortable doing this, especially in public, then don't do it. Even though your clubmates are disappointed, what counts is God. You don't have to do all those public things to be closer to God. What counts is your heart. You, praying silently in your bedroom, just might be waaaaay closer to God than your next-door-neighbour who goes to church regularly and screams "Jesus" and cries when she's there. She just might be putting on a scene. You can have a "private" prayer with God and it'll be just as effective.

Follow your heart my dear...it is a scientific fact that tears shed in grief have healing properties...and it is probably a good way to get it all out and go about with your life.

just my humble pagan thoughts...

Be carefull who you let lay hands on you and who you let pray over you. There are many wolves in sheep's clothing . Pray about it first and let God lead you.
