Jephthah promised God that he would sacrifice whatever that comes out of his house to meet him after his victory against the Ammonites. That turned out to be his teenage daughter, his only child. Jephthah did what promised, and God accepted the virgin.

They say the reason most people become atheists is because they don't want to believe. I would like to clear up that misconception. I do want to believe in God. I really do. I just can't. I am a realist. As much as I may want it, I cannot accept a religion on faith alone. I need more then that. No one wants to believe death is the end. Only a crazy person would want that.

why is this so hard to get through to people? i'll put it like this. we all believe policemen exists. we see them on the streets in their police cars or on the side of the road with their radar guns. yet how many of us are willing to go speeding by when we see one ready to give out a ticket to us? similarly, some 90 percent of the world's populations claims to believe in a god in one form or another. and much like the policeman, he or she is someone who is constantly watching us and will lay down the law if we step out of line. so why are so many believers so careless to break what they believe are god's laws yet pay so much more respect to man's laws? either you just don't respect god's word or you don't believe he exists. am i missing something?

I saw a little clip a while back and they asked random Christians about what was going on and where God was during the establishing of the early churches.

If acting like God and nature means more to you than acting corporate, that's a bad thing?

Such as: Why do Atheists hate Christians? Why do Christians think they are better than everyone else? Why are Americans money hungry?

I made these up, but do you get the point?

I hear and see generalities used everyday. Is this due to ignorance, laziness,...or do they actually believe what they are saying?

1) Cheat on their spouse or other people in business transactions
2) Talk gossip about others
3) Jack off and basically waste sperm - and by some peoples' definition that is murder
4) Have abortions
5) Listen to rap that degrades women and acting on the song's words
Etc......
you get the point! People claim to be religious, whether they be Jewish or Christian, but deep down they evince some sort of skepticism, because otherwise they would not do many of these things. Think about it, if you really believed God existed and there was a heaven and a hell, would you still have that abortion, or talk that gossip?

I didn't think so....

I mean, how does nature go from salt water to goo to algae to fish to monkeys to man? Each step is so incrediably difficult. Don't you need the whole cell in single cell animals? They would be just a bunch of ribosomes or something. Even one cell is so complicated, did a bunch of proteins just fall together in the ocean? And then mulitply? I don't get it. Creationism doesn't make the process of life and the universe any smaller or less important, and actually gives goo and monkeys a purpose. Hope I explained myself okay.

Anybody realize that they are 2 different arguments? The theory of evolution does not say that we descended from monkeys, that is just bull. Why are people debating this without knowing what "inteliigent design" means and what is the theory of evolution?

It seems "hell" is the ultimate extension of the human tendency to fear, to live in apprehension of the future, rather that experiencing the present.

Thoughts?

if lust is such a deadly sin, how is man supposed to procreate? i know what you're thinking, "well, it's not lust if you're married." but the simple fact of the matter is most people don't get married unless there's that physical attraction there to begin, and most of the time that attraction is not mutual, thus people don't end up getting married, but the lust is still there? so how are we supposed to know who to marry and ultimately procreate with if there is not that lust there to begin with? do we just marry people who we think we might someday have sexual feelings for?

it just dawned on me that if there is a god, he did indeed make us sinners on purpose. consider the sin of lust. if you take 100 straight men, and a beautiful woman walks by in a thong bikini, half the men will more than likely look. the other half will look away and pray for the dirty thoughts to be out of their head. in any case all 100 of them are pretty much thinking the same thing. so is it really fair to call people sinners if what is in our heart is based on what we were programmed to think by our creator?
