why is this so hard to get through to people? i'll put it like this. we all believe policemen exists. we see them on the streets in their police cars or on the side of the road with their radar guns. yet how many of us are willing to go speeding by when we see one ready to give out a ticket to us? similarly, some 90 percent of the world's populations claims to believe in a god in one form or another. and much like the policeman, he or she is someone who is constantly watching us and will lay down the law if we step out of line. so why are so many believers so careless to break what they believe are god's laws yet pay so much more respect to man's laws? either you just don't respect god's word or you don't believe he exists. am i missing something?

why does your temptation not get the best of you when you see a police officer and perhaps you want to speed, but you don't?

so jesus (god as some would say), died for us so we could disrespect the laws he layed out for us? that makes about zero sense.

Yes, you are missing something. Because we believe in God does not make us perfect. I know policemen exist and I believe in law, but sometimes I might speed. We all make mistakes. Man is fallible.

Good point. I am not sure whether Christians believe God is "not watching at the moment," or that it's OK, because Jesus died for all my sins, both past and FUTURE, so I can go ahead and sin and the fact that Jesus died makes it OK.
It does seem irrational to me, but then I gave up Christianity a long time ago.

Not true. Believing in God does not make one capable of living a sinless life. It is impossible for anyone to do that. Jesus is the only person to ever live without committing sin. Accepting Him as Saviour does change us and enable us not to live a life of consistent and willful sin. That is completely different.
People may not purposely break the speed limit, but I doubt if anyone can say they've never gone over the speed limit accidentally. We may do our best not to, but it happens anyway. That doesn't mean they are willfully disobeying the law.

Your observation is quite correct. We are more afraid of breaking secular law than God's laws but which I presume you mean the ten commandments. In fact you cannot keep the ten commandments however much you try. They were put there to show you what you are like. Only by faith in Christ, who said he came to fulfill the law, can you begin to keep the law.

I suppose it's a lot more difficult because we don't actually 'see' God. (Most people DO speed when they don't see a police car.)
It requires faith to keep God's laws, and humans are notoriously weak in this area.

The policeman is applying others rules but God is applying his rules ( i guess we're not comparing a policeman to God !!!)
God will not burn you for not believing in him because he needs you or other. He is threatening you just for your benefit. Because if you are a REAL believer, you're gonna benefit your society & yourself.
I hope it is not funny this time !!

this is because the religions that talk of sin make it so impossible to live by their rules! Morality is one thing, but to try and navigate the minefield of what men with a control fetish have marked as sin is never going to happen!

Oh, absolutely NOT true.
Belief and faith in the one true God does NOT negate all of the temptations of the world. Nor does it invalidate free will.

We are human. Humans make mistakes.
Thats why Jesus died for us; because he knew that we could not go sin-free like he did.
