They say the reason most people become atheists is because they don't want to believe. I would like to clear up that misconception. I do want to believe in God. I really do. I just can't. I am a realist. As much as I may want it, I cannot accept a religion on faith alone. I need more then that. No one wants to believe death is the end. Only a crazy person would want that.

Most people get confused because of christian dogma of belief. Just clean your mind from any prejudice created by media, consider Islam. instead of going here and there, just read a good translation of Quran

I congradulate you to be Atheist, because an atheist doesnot belief in any God. This is the first Step towards the belief in Islam.

The belief in Islam is in three steps :
1. The is no True God (diety) to be Worshipped.
2. Except Allah ( The Only Ture God)
3. Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) is His Last and Final Messenger.

Regarding the existence of The God ( Allah), I would like to give you an example. An item we use for it there is a manufacturer. When we purchase the Machine/Equipment we get a booklet along with it about the instructions about how best we can use the item, what cautions are needed to avoid any damage to it or harm to the user. Likewise, Human being is the most complicated Machine on the Earth who has the Manufacturer Too ( i.e. The God Allah) and the Instruction Manual for do's and dont's is the Last, Final and Perfect Book revealed to Mankind to His last and Final Messenger Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) is Holy Quraan.

The Quraan is being read by many Non-Muslims in the West and in Europe, and accepting Islam as the perfect way of Life. No Muslims is forcing them to do that.

I will advise you too to Please read it, at least for your information and to increase your Knowledge.

People say that they can’t believe in God just on faith alone, yet they put faith in man every day. They will go to a fast food restaurant, and give their order, drive around, hand over their money, take the bag, and never even look in it until they get home. Now if they can have that much faith in a person getting the order right, why can’t they have faith in God who can destroy the body and soul? I think if it was me, I would take the change of my belief being wrong, before I would just leave my soul to chance. Look at it this way, if God was not real and you believed He was, then what have you really lost in the end, but if you don’t believe and He is real then you have lost eternal life with Him. †

Well, besides suggesting that you look around you and wonder how all of this could exist without God, you could try reading "The New Evidence That Demands a Verdict" by Josh McDowell. It uses a _very_ logical approach. Also, Mere Christianity by C. S. Lewis. If you're serious about wanting to believe in God, these are good books to check out.

Belief in God is not arrived at through a logical thinking process. It is through faith and experience that we come to know God. So if you cannot believe in God by faith alone, you never will.

God Supplies Motives (156)
Faith does not result from the truths appearing naturally intelligible but from the authority of God who cannot deceive. Certainly, God supplies external proofs to help our natural powers (such as Christ's miracles and the Church's growth). These motives of credibility show that faith is not "a blind impulse." These external helps aid the Spirit's internal promptings.

Greater than Human Light (157)
Although revealed truths might be obscure, faith is more certain than human knowledge because it is based upon God's Word. "The certainty of divine light is greater than the light of natural reason" (St. Thomas Aquinas). "Ten thousand difficulties do not make one doubt" (Cardinal Newman).

I personally have NO desire to believe in a sadistic, killer God who drowned, sickened, and slaughtered millions (more than Hitler), and repeatedly commanded his followers to hurt and kill people. Nor do I need such a being. To each his own.

There is nothing crazy about believing that death is the end. You didn't have a life before birth. Why would you need a life after death? The LAST thing I would want is eternal life ANYWHERE.

All this time I thought we were atheists because we were mad at God.

I have never actually been mad at God and have tried to believe in God as I came from a fairly religious Catholic background but over many years I came to realize that man invented gods and that the whole concept of God is just plain impossible.

I, also, would definitely prefer that there is a loving god out there who treats everyone fairly, and perfectly justly rewards and punishes everyone for their deeds on Earth, as it would definitely make up for the severe imbalance of 'fairness' here.

But no matter how much I want it, that doesn't make it any less of a fantasy. I'm glad you realize that as well. One more opened mind, and opened pair of eyes.

Desire does not define reality, theists. It's about time you realized this, and made the most of your life, instead of squandering it in preparation of an afterlife that is nothing more than the greatest conceivable gamble. Would you put your life savings on a lottery with a 10 billion to one shot of winning? No? Then why would you put your LIFE on a lottery with an even smaller chance?

If you truly ARE a realist, then you certainly must realize that faith is the keystone to it all.

Please, take time to read the Word of God with an open mind and an open heart. It's okay to ask questions. It's okay to seek the truth.

Only a crazy person would NOT want to do that. (attempted humor by paraphrasing your last comment...may or may not reflect the beliefs of the author (me) or Y!A or Yaks(pbuh) or any person living or dead)

"The way to see by faith is to shut the eye of reason." — Ben Franklin, Poor Richard's Almanack, 1758.

"Whenever a poet or preacher, chief or wizard spouts gibberish, the human race spends centuries deciphering the message." — Umberto Eco.

"Never yet has a God been defined in terms which were not palpably self-contradictory and absurd; never yet has a God been described so that a concept of Him was made possible to human thought." — Annie Besant.
