Do you know that the reason you have the emotion of fear is because that your body is carring the soul of a 10 million year old alien that was frozen then dropped into a volocano? And that for ONLY 240 dollars you can be happy again by pretending to not be sad?

It seems that the Prophets of old routinely inquired of the Lord about even things like where to find a lost donkey and the Lord answered them. Gordon Hinkley should be able to do the same thing with these poor trapped miners. 3 more just died yesterday trying to rescue them. If we knew the origional 6 were alive or not it would be a big help in the rescue effort.

I saw some atheists criticising Dawkins because his arguments are almost parroted by some atheists. I'd like to make clear that parroting a reasonable argument is not wrong so long as you actually understand the argument.

The reason Dawkins is the most parroted is because he is, far and away, the most effective at systematically dismantling arguments for religion AND (here is the importrant part) offering actual explanations for the universe and putting our existence into context. This is where others fall short and Dawkins picks up the slack and why I find him more effective than Harris or Hitchens. I should say I read The Selfish Gene and The Blind Watchmaker before The God Delusion and I have been studying evoluton for some time but together those books offer a more complete explanation as to why religion need not exist, and why it does exist anyways, than anything I have seen from anyone else. I'm not suggesting we worship the man, I'm suggesting he is the best we have.

Ok, so at times when a person has approached you specifically to share their faith with you - like a JW, or a Mormon missionary or whatever - and you said "Thanks, but no thanks" (nothing rude, but just a polite statement letting them no that you were not interested), what was their response?

Before you jump in, I am an atheist and reject all religions' views on the universe.
Recently, I used to think that science was concrete facts that could not be disputed. If you believed in religion, you were denying all reason and logic. Newton could be proved time and time again, as could Einstein. Even Darwin, although not proven, is by far the most likely explanation and everything we since discover confirms this strong theory.
HOWEVER, science these days, now that it has gone beyond simple motion and matter, gets more and more theoretical. I've seen programs about the nature of atoms and the universe and the theories are extremely varied and counter-intuitive. Is it now becoming a matter of faith to believe that atoms can be in 2 different states at the same time and in 2 different universes?

That you had been in constant contact with for years. Like a job that you really loved or perhaps a personal mission.

When I previewed this I saw it could be a depressing question. I'm not talking about something you Didn't Want to let go. Rather something you knew it was right to let go of.

What can we do to show love for everyone in the world (and in R&S)?

Hate, anger, suspicion, fear, shunning, etc. is easy to do but love is what we are called to show.

No excuses either... I don't want to hear but they do it too, they say this, they say that... You are still called to peace and love.

I admit that I have gotten my feathers ruffled too and spouted off in sheer crankiness... I generally get convicted in my spirit about it and mend my ways. So I am definitely not saying that I am perfect. I'm the extreme opposite of that!

So what have you? Why not ask serious questions today about the beliefs of others to get t oknow your neighbors on this planet?

As a Jew-by-choice, I've never heard pride mentioned in a derogatory manner, but have often heard Christians mention the evils of pride.

I know that the highest form of a mitzvah is to donate anonymously to an anonymous recipient, but it seems to me that any mitzvah is a good mitzvah.

I know that pride isn't a positive, but is it actually evil?

Christians, I know you have opinions, but the opinions I'm looking for are from knowledgeable Jews.

My mother feels that all Muslims are the terrorist in Iraq. On an Oprah show, she interviewed a Muslim woman, an American born and raised here, discussing her religion and some of the misconceptions.

There are roughly 1 billion Muslims in the world, & it's the second largest and fastest growing religion.

Are there terrorist who claim to be Muslim? Yes. Are there members of the KKK who claimed to be Christian? Yes. Does that mean that every Christian in the world hates black people--or that every Muslim is a terrorist?

I've tried showing examples, explaining how many Muslims in the world (vs the small number that are proven terrorists). Roughly the same number of terrorists claim to be Christian (Oklahoma City as an ex).

I am not allowed to introduce my Muslim friends to her, nor ever have them in her house. I would be banned from even seeing them except I'm an adult and there is nothing she can do. Any chance that she will ever let go of this hatred and accept Muslims as people?

I'm serious by the way.

A mate of mine accidentally took a sip of vodka thinking it was a glass of water at a party. He is Muslim and was absolutley devestated that he drank alcohol, as it is against Allah's wishes.

He really was traumatised. Fair enough, I told him, but he shouldn't be so hard on himself because it was an accident and he didn't intentionally drink the alcohol....then I remembered...he was on pills at the time...

So is he allowed to do this is Islamic terms? He seemed to think ecstacy is fine with Allah, but i'm not so sure it would be

In Kaliamma & Mariamma Hindu temples of Tamil Nadu state of India every year a young adult boy is wrapped in a saffron coloured cloth & carried to temples by many & sacrificed i.e., killed for some religious purpose I do not know. Shall such killings continue in a civilized human society ? How is the boy selected ? How do the parents allow ? In a Hindu temple in Karnataka state, once a year on a day after special worship, many ladies come out of the temple & run on the roads of the city in nude, some with ten year old son too. In Yelamma temple of South India , prostitution is allowed & considered good works. There are similar smaller temples nearby. In many temples ladies called devdasis( maid servants of God) are put into prostitution legally. Is that religious in those areas ? I don't know. Can anybody clarify why at all such things happen with human beings in India ?

Do you remember before you were alive? No? Well that's also what it's like after you die. If you're religious - Im sorry to ruin the myth.

Ah well, at least all of the fanatical religious types who rely on a crutch for their existence can now start doing something productive with their lives, instead of doing crazy things in the name of a book that was written in the dark ages, by people further down the evolutionary ladder.

I also saw some cave drawings once which implied that we are supposed to worship the sun but I'm reserving judgement about that too.

In short, religion used to fill a gap in our understanding of the world and universe around us. Those gaps are now being filled by hard scientific facts. Maybe we should all worship scientists instead?
