How does one know which Bible to read? Why have churches dropped certain gospels out of the Bible? Doesn't content get kind of lost through translation...where as the change of one small word gives a whole new meaning to a statement? So how does one know that what the bible says is actually truly what it said to begin with. When you cange words such as we, they, and I a sentence changes immensely.
Which WORD id THE WORD of GOD and why would anyone take away from it?
How do you feel about servitude in the Bible? Wouldn't that be slaves in todays terminology? (please forgive the spelling)

Or perhaps it goes further back to BC days. Either way, what is the historical precedent for tithes, in general? Do other religions practice tithing?

Didn't it just always make no sense?

I remember when I was young, and a Christian, the story of Noah was especially hard to swallow.

For over 40 years I was able to believe Jesus was the "son" of God and also see the bible as ONLY metaphors and parables.

Would you support a candidate whose wife, (24 years younger than him), dresses like one? (Fred Thompson, Republican)

I know I already asked the question...but, thought I would rephrase it. It seems conservative, religious America is always concerned about the message being sent today to kids via the celebrities and how they dress...Paris, Lindsay, Britney, Madonna, the Bratz dolls even, etc...

Many conservatives preach that celebrities should be a role model and they don't like the fact that their children imitate the dress of these celebrities.

So, what if the first lady dresses like a Bratz doll? What message does that send to your children?

There seems to be a double standard when it is the liberals whose wardrobe you judge...but, when a Republican's wife dresses like a (*&^ it's o.k.?

Where in the Bible does it talk about inflation and uping the percentage of tithes? Jesus didn't belong to a church so how did they come up with giving to the church? Jesus said to give to the poor, not to Him. I just think the Romans were a bunch of controlling men who wanted power and prestige and everyone's money. Do you truly believe that God wants ALL people to give 15% of their earning? There is a ton of poverty in this world and I don't think God wants the people who are earning $10/week to feed their families to take what they have away from them to give to a church. What are your thoughts?

Zunis [rightfully] believe all creatures crawled out of a hole in the ground. But because of insidious Christian control of the electronic media, and because scientists refuse to accept the evidence, Zunis have been unable to spread the truth to other people of the planet.

According to the American Heritage Dictionary (4th Edition, 2006), a fable is defined as;

A usually short narrative making an edifying or cautionary point and often employing as characters animals that speak and act like humans.

According to the bible, both a donkey (Num 22:28) and a snake (Gen 3:1) are said to speak. Therefore, by definition, the bible is nothing but fable.

Why would you live your life based in what is, by definition, fable? We don't live our lives based on the Wizard of Oz, even though a lion is said to speak. We don't live our lives based on Bugs Bunny, even though a rabbit is said to speak.

What is the difference between the Wizard of Oz, Bugs Bunny and the bible, which would cause you to live your life based on fable, wherein animals are said to speak? Do you not know that snakes can't speak, since they lack vocal chords?

I fail to understand how any rational person could live their life based on something that is defined as fable.

Why do so many people think this man is of GOD. And im not here to judge but just give the facts. In Tennessee Billy Gram and Tammy Fay Baker were scamming people for their money that was to go to charities and it did not. Billy was not married to tammy but was having sex with her, and wouldnt a man of GOD help people rather than buy a multi million $ Home and what about sending money for Prayers now thats just Evil. A man of GOD would not decieve People out of their money then run to the Carolinas. To me a woman of GOD i see Evil in this mans face. There is More to that man than just knowing the Bible and saying what people want to hear for a Dollar. Hes devious and Rich. He will Have his glory here on earth but when its time to face GOD he will be judged. Id rather have my Glory in Heaven. I feel for the people who belive in this man. . it dont take sending money to this man that is filthy rich and using GOD to get that way. Money is the root of all evil

Was he being good when he created evil?

And starvation, disease, hate, violence? Because if he's as omnipotent as everyone claims, then he also created all those things. Not just moonbeams and kittens and hugs.

Isn't good a bit of a simplistic term to apply to an all-powerful supernatural being? (Assuming one exists, of course.)

Why is it you think that Allah n God are 2 different god's, there both the same whether we call him Jevah(like the jew's do) or Barhama like hindus would so the muslim name for God is Allah. This is the ignorance.

Islam which is the first religion n the truth, the word Islam is an arabic word means submit. we all worship the same God wether a Jew, Christian or Muslim . Allah is the arabic word for God, so Allah is God, This is what we call God, which is used by most muslim's and non-muslim arab's, just like the jew's call God Jevah, and the Hindus call him Bahrama, i think they do(hindus).

... creationism alone should be taught in public schools as an alternative to evolution.

A lot of people embrace the argument and understand the parody. These are overwhelmingly not creationists, though. Indeed, I've never heard a creationist's response.

So... Creationists, IF I were to accept the notion that an alternative to evolution should be taught in schools, why should it be the Abrahamic/Christian tradition, in particular?

Let me say up front that I'm an agnostic formerly trained in the sciences. For me, evolution has a sufficient amount of evidence to back it up. On the other hand, as a rationalist non-empiricist I also succumb to the notion that what I "know" is limited and therefore leave room for other possibilities. This is more of a social/cultural question than one about religious beliefs.

I was raised up in a Pentacostal Holiness Church. Of course it is not
the same as it was, 20 years ago. And neither are the people. But we
still have the same agenda, and that is to serve and worship the
Almighty. Back in those days you couldn't where a dress lower than
the knees, one time even the ankle. Or red on Sundays, no wine, no
women preachers, no uncovered hair on Sundays in church, no
jewelry, no strong perfumes, and so on.... I think you get the picture.
But things are much more conservative and flexible now. And the men
don't always have to wear a suit either ! Wow. What is your religion ?

Here's the challenge:

1. Go to the Department of Education website listed below and read about all the various kinds of *protected* religious expression in public schools in the US.

2. Make notes on what is protected religious expression - for students, for instructors and other school employees.

3. Next time someone expresses a belief that prayer (bible study, etc.) is not allowed in public schools, correct them with the *facts* of the matter. Be a truth-teller. Don't spread lies or allow them to be spread when you know the truth.

ARE YOU WILLING to take the challenge?

In a recent question, "laotzu4272" said outright what I believe a lot of people think: (quote) "...without America the world would be a better place." How pathetic. Here are a few truths:
1) America was the main power that defeated Nazi Germany
2) America wrote a constitution with a bill of rights at a time when the world was ruled by Czars, Kings, and Emporers
3) Americans give more to charities AROUND THE WORLD than all other peoples combined

If you want to meet people who like America, try a Starbucks in Beijing, Cellphones allow fishermen in poor countries to check the market price for their catch. It’s U.S. military power that helps keep order in the world. Overwhelming U.S. might is what keeps the oil flowing. Oil is the lifeblood of every nation’s economy, and without it they’d collapse. America has waded into trouble spots—Bosnia, Kosovo, Haiti, Somalia—where others fear to tread; not because it had anything to gain, but because it wanted to restore order and get out.

Last night my love cooked while I went for wine. We sat down with the two boys and talked and laughed all through the dinner. Afterward she and I retired to the living room while our two sons played happily.

We Talked about the little things that made up our day, sharing some nice Australian wine and an occasional kiss. I remember the kisses. I can still taste them on my lips.

Once everyone was in bed, I sat up late doodling in my sketch book, after deciding that I wasn't in the mood for a whole chapter of reading. The stars wheeled overhead. Later the Moon came out to play with them amongst the clouds. At some point I slipped off to a night rich with dreams.

I have seen many Christians ask, "How do you atheist find meaning in life?", or "Without God, what is the purpose in life?".

My Question is simple. Do you really think that someone can not find a meaningful life, filled with purpose, without God?
