Would you support a candidate whose wife, (24 years younger than him), dresses like one? (Fred Thompson, Republican)

I know I already asked the question...but, thought I would rephrase it. It seems conservative, religious America is always concerned about the message being sent today to kids via the celebrities and how they dress...Paris, Lindsay, Britney, Madonna, the Bratz dolls even, etc...

Many conservatives preach that celebrities should be a role model and they don't like the fact that their children imitate the dress of these celebrities.

So, what if the first lady dresses like a Bratz doll? What message does that send to your children?

There seems to be a double standard when it is the liberals whose wardrobe you judge...but, when a Republican's wife dresses like a (*&^ it's o.k.?

As long as her husband supports the anti-gay agenda, in the eyes of those promoting homophobia, she will be acceptable no matter how she dresses. (Pick and choose.)

No people can wear what they want, especially when they are adults and they are cute like she is. Many people have a problem with the bratz dolls because they are marketed towards 5 year olds and they don't want their children focusing on superficial, adult things too early. In order for a conservative woman to never be called a hypocrite, she has to be a nun. And even then....
I sort of think this is nitpicking. People don't like celebrities because they get DUIs, party, and make internet-leaked sex tapes, not because they have style. She's a woman and she's allowed to be sexual, but we don't want to tell little girls that's where their worth lies while their minds are mush. We want them to think the bratz clothes are fun for special occasions, like when you are out with your husband, but they are not required to be hip.
As for the article, I don't think the age difference is so bad. Thompson is not my favorite, but it's not because he married a pretty younger woman. I do however like that he was an actor and can speak. It's time the Republicans had a candidate who can articulate what he thinks and what he is doing so we can understand it (like Reagan did). Everytime I watch Bush, I give him the benefit of the doubt to start with, but by the time I turn off the tv, I'm thinking, "I have no idea what that man just said or what he is up to".

Bratz dolls - hate them and they were forbidden in my house. Totally wrong message.

As for Mrs. Thompson... ok, the dress in the top picture left a bit to be desired (regardless of who she is!), but she looked wonderful in the bottom picture. As daughter of Isis said, I wished I looked that good!

Perhaps she will change her fashion sense a bit if and when he announces his candidacy. I would hope that she would tone it down just a bit, but it is her life.

It's the same way everywhere. Younger wives sometimes dress a certain way, but as their husbands go up in the company they find they have to play a certain role and act a certain way because she is expected to be by his side.

Let's face it... she hasn't been an issue up till this point. Now she knows that everyone is looking and watching, and that her dress and behavior reflect on her husband, more now than ever. As a grown woman, I'm sure she understands what her next step is going to be.

I don't mind my daughter having them. She's 9 and has quite a few of them. I would never allow my daughter to dress like them, because I "parent" her. The problem isn't with the dolls or celebrities, it's with parents not doing their job. Like the answerer saying they knew Barbie's were fantasy, my daughter understands Bratz are fantasy. When did parents stop raising their children and start blaming outside sources for their problems? Do you job and there is no problem!

I don't think how a wife dresses is important at all...

However, the Bratz dolls are inappropriate.

My wife and I are preparing for pregnancy #2, and we'd like a girl. I've already stated that bratz dolls and sexy clothes are not appropriate.

I had barbies, and understood those were fantasy, (although, well, my wife does have nice curves) and I think anything that makes barbie look like a dowdie Jackie O is just not appropriate for girls.

I don't really care what any candidates wife dresses like, personally. She's not the one running. He is. I don't care how he dresses, either, nor do I care how any candidate dresses. What I care about is how they will help this country, especially the middle class.

PS I'm a liberal.

My chief objection is based in phonetics. While there is some reason to use "z" as a suffix in words that end in vowels and voiced consonants, it makes no sense at all to use it with unvoiced consonants.

It is a desperate, non-thinking attempt to look "hip."

i don't let my chidren dress like that. i know many children who do, and as young as 5 yrs old, well let's just say that by the time they're 9 they act the part too. it's scary, really scary. i am strict with what my kids watch and listen to because they are kids, not adults. because of this, my kids are good kids and dress nicely. the ones who are watching teenage and adult movies and listening to their music are the ones who are having sex by the time they're 9 or 10.
