I'm still trying to understand why fundamentalist Christians are against gay marriage.

In my search for truth on that, I thought maybe it could be in the argument of "slippery slope". Maybe it's something like this:

If we allow two men to get married, then soon somebody wants to marry his dog, and cats will wanna marry trees. And if that happens penguins will marry cats...and..and... crocodiles will wanna marry ducks, and if crocodiles marry ducks, they will have babies, and those babies will be crocoducks...

And crocoducks will prove evolution, and evolution disproves God.

Could that be why they are so scared of gay marriage?

How much time do you give to Jesus each week? If you truly love something, it consumes your time.
And when he brings out his own sheep, he goes before them; and the sheep follow him, for they know his voice. Yet they will by no means follow a stranger, but will flee from him, for they do not know the voice of strangers. John 10:4-5

Under the name Enigma I have asked and answered many questions, but not all of the answers came from me personally. I have allowed my brother and a good friend to answer questions that caught their eyes on my account, as neither of them have computers and we generally agree in theory if not detail. At 6:00 pm Friday, June 1 the friend, who I respected enough to allow use of my account, died as a result of a fall from a 20ft retaining wall while fishing less than a mile from his home. If the answers received are more thoughtful, and less obnoxious this is the reason. From this point on, all answers and questions will be from me alone. Robert "crazy horse" Cornette will be sorely missed, may he rest in peace. I will delete this soon, as it is not a question and therefore violates community guidelines.

A few hours ago, someone asked what at first seemed like a straightforward and simple question that seemed to be homosexual bigotry and hatred. Until he posted additional information where he claimed that homosexuality and pedophilia were the same thing.

My question is this....

Why is it that many religious seem to have difficulty separating a consensual adult relationship where both parties understand the circumstances, with the possible consequences of a sexual relationship and normally mutual passionate love, and the act of an adult preying on children who do not understand enough to consent to the action?

They are not the same thing. Is there something wrong with the Christian mind? Perhaps a retardation of maturity?

In the US in the year 1990, eight percent of the population did not go to church. In the year 2000, the figure had increased to 14%. Most people said they believed in God, and only 2% said they were atheists (which makes me wonder about the accuracy of this because there seems to be a LOT of atheists on this forum). In an age of instantly available fact checking, do you think that religious myths are eventually doomed to the dust bin of history?

It's really hard to tell a hard core catholic that you're atheist.

Why not get a good biology book and read it? Most of the questions themselves (never mind the answers) show profound ignorance of the most basic methods of science and the wealth of scientific evidence relevant to the topic.

If you are a religious believer and are confused, try Ken Miller's _Finding Darwin's God_. If you are the sort of person who won't read a book, you shouldn't be giving answers as though you know something, but even on the internet you can find solid scientific information if you know where to look. Without God there would be no hope.
Without God there would be no security.
Without God mankind would prey on one another without any thought of remorse.
Without God mankind would be nothing more than self animals seeking physical gratification.
God is the glue that keeps the world from destroying itself.
God is love.
What do you think?

In a conversation about religion in general, a friend of mine brought up question to which I didn't have an answer, nor anyone else in the room. Christianity is taught from the Bible. The Bible states that the Jews are God's chosen people. Jews do not believe that Jesus Christ was the Messiah. Christianity teaches you must accept Christ as your Saviour to be accepted into Heaven. Are God's chosen people (Jews) going to Hell, because they do not believe Christ is the Savior? If not, why are they the exception to the rule? Any legitimate insight into this is appreciated.

...if the Bible were written with God being female? Not necessarily using the term Goddess, but just using female pronouns, She instead of He? Since, as some have said, God has no sex, what, if any, problem would you have with that?
